“Historical, fun and scenic street”

I love Thames Street (you pronouce the "H" in Thames here - it is not like in England). There are several shops, bars, restaurants, coffee houses etc. along this historical, busy and narrow road. Part of the street is still cobblestones - which is really neat. Thames Street is right in downtown Newport near the marinas. Historical Trinity Church is on this street, too, so be sure to visit this gem and its graveyard. The Brick Alley Pub, one of Newport's best restaurants, is on Thames, as is the Newport Blues Cafe, which is great for live music. If you are visiting, be sure to take a stroll down this fun street filled with lots of things to see.

“Touristy, but great history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2012

We loved walking up and down Thames, shopping and reading the National Historic Register plaques on so many of the restaurants and pubs. It is right along the water (a couple blocks off in some places) so nice and breezy.

“eh?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2012

Too busy, sidewalks packed with window shoppers who won't let you pass without stepping out into traffic (which at least that's not moving either). $$ down there but as I said before "it's summer in Newport so I'll get over it".

Thames street is the perfect vacation spot with beautiful shops, lovely restaurants, live music venues and a view of the water. Don't miss the pottery gallery with equisite handmade plates and vases.
