“Excellent B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2013

We've stayed at the Admiral several times and we always love it. It is in a great location on Thames - near the main drag but quieter. Our favorite room is #19 which has a small roof deck (private for your use, although it is adjacent to another room's deck and near a common roof deck) with a nice view of the harbor area and a great place to watch the sunset with a drink. The room is nice...only complaint is the bathroom mirror is very low due to an angled wall above it (they give you a stool to use if you get tired of squatting!). The room is a little more expensive but worth it for the roof deck. Otherwise, try using the common roof deck.

Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is just a continental breakfast (no hot food) but it is good.

If you stay there, try eating at Scales and Shells which just a few blocks away. Excellent seafood pastas served in a frying plan!

Room Tip: Try room #19 for the roof deck

Lovely inn just shy of the Thames Street activities.....perfect!! We were able to walk practically EVERYWHERE....and come back to our quiet, comfy room to relax and recharge. Our room was in the back of the building....so not sure if the street facing rooms were just as peaceful......Spacious room....lovely furnishings...
We gave an 'average' for service...as we had an issue with a hairdryer that began smoking from the wall (hardwired into the wall)...we reported it right away....left for the day's activities. Next morning, went to use the hairdryer....it began smoking again.....Contacted the desk.....and found it had not been fixed. Was surprised as we would think this would be a definite fire hazard....We were offered a 'hand held' dryer for use....which was fine....But we were concerned at the lack of attention to this issue in an 'older' building......Otherwise...we have no complaints.......

I have stayed at the Admiral Fitzroy Inn on two occasions. It is a great place to stay. The location is perfect, the staff is very friendly, and the rooms are beautiful and clean. We really enjoyed the breakfast also. I will be staying there again!!

I can not say enough about the excellent service we had at the Admiral Fitzroy. It is located in an ideal location, making it easy to walk around and be able to just park the car and leave it. The rooms were great. I was there for a wedding and my family had rented five of the rooms and they were all wonderful! Angela and the entire staff are amazing! I highly recommend staying at the Admiral Fitzroy when you visit Newport.

While visiting Newport, my husband and I opted for this B&B in downtown Newport where all the action is. We arrived rather early, well before our check-in, and although our room wasn't ready, they set us up with a parking pass and let us have access to the common areas. For those that haven't visited Newport, let me tell you that parking there can be rather difficult, with the roads tiny and the slope intense, as well as the swarms of people you are trying to dodge, so having a private parking lot in the back of the B&B was a HUGE plus for us.

When we did check in later on that day, we got a free upgrade due to availability. The room was lovely, and rather large. It's an old vintage building, so the walls are thin, but you come to expect that in RI, this is the norm.

We utilized their common area of the rooftop sitting area, which was a wonderful view of the all the wharfs. We brought up a bottle of wine we supplied, the wine glasses they supply, and watched the sailboats go in and out of the harbor for a while. Very relaxing.

On our way out for the night, we grabbed a freshly made warm cookie displayed on the countertop. The B&B is right on Thames street, so it's a short walk to all the amazing pier restaurants and shops. Truly a great location.

Breakfast was good. Fresh fruit, pastries, breads, yogurt, etc... and a good selection of juices. It's a smaller spread, so I don't think you'll find omelets or waffles, but I enjoyed the simplicity of having a light healthy breakfast before heading out for a day of lobster rolls and crab cakes.

I recommend this to anyone who visits Newport. We will be back!

We stayed here for a night. The place and people at the hotel are very warm and friendly. Also has a cute little dining area where they serve free breakfast in the morning.

Definitely recommend it and is a great value for money.

Spent several nights here on my first (hubby's second) visit to the area. The location is wonderful for walking town and the staff was very helpful. We also loved our room. Overall we got more than we expected at this lovely inn and would stay again ourselves and recommend it to friends.

Note: We went to the inn on a promotional weekend and the extras provided (wine, chocolate and flowers) were very nice.

Room Tip: our room was on the second floor and did have an unexpected water view although inn is not on/at th...
