I went to the Admiral Fitzroy inn with my fiance in late March of 2014 as part of a post-engagement vacation. I wanted to show her the mansions along the shore. I picked the Admiral Fitzroy Inn because of its quaint rooms and its great location - and it was a good pick! The inn was charming and well-kept. The breakfast served every morning was varied and delicious. The innkeeper was extremely charming and very helpful. Our room was great, too. My fiance and I stayed in one of the King Deck rooms and the view was wonderful - plus private. I ordered the Romance Package and wasn't disappointed by the beautiful flowers and wine in the room when we arrived. The inn is also right in the middle of historic Newport, so it's a great location for walking out, eating out, and, in general, having a great time. I found their prices to be reasonable compared to other inns in the vicinity, as well.

Room Tip: The King Deck rooms are great - a top view and more private!

I've stayed in Newport many times, and always walked by the Admiral Fitzroy promising myself one day I would stay there, finally did it and I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner. The location is great, right in the heart of downtown Newport, everything is in walking distance. We stayed on the third floor, room 14, the room was beautiful, classic with a sleigh bed, a fridge (hidden inside a customized hutch), a mirrored bureau, a desk, and another small table with 2 bottles of water (replenished every morning) and chocolates. Sounds like alot, but it wasn't crowded at all, the bathroom, like the room, was the cleanest I've ever stayed in, and I travel alot. First night while watching tv, we noticed a few of the stations didnt have volume, so after dinner we asked the woman at the desk if that had happened before, she said she would come up and check it out, she ended up replacing the tv in about 15 minutes, very professional and courteous as was the rest of the staff. Breakfast was awesome, fresh fruit, yogurt, cheeses, juices, coffee, tea. It was a fantastic weekend, we are looking forward to staying again soon

Beautiful Inn, located on Thames so your in the heart of stores and restaurants.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Our room#5 was very comfortable and clean.
Plenty of off street parking.
Being an old historical building the walls are thin but I too am a light sleeper so don't let this deter you. Next time I'll bring earplugs.
Full breakfast is not offered but there was a great basket of homemade baked goods, assorted cheese and ham slices, cereal, breads ,hard boiled eggs ,juices, tea and coffee.
We stayed 2 nights on a deal that included a bottle of wine, flowers and a box of chocolates. Very nice touch.

We were given a weekend getaway as a gift from our kids. The Admiral Fitzroy Inn was great. The location was perfect for walking to restaurants and night spots. Our room was on the top floor and had a semi private deck. The weather during our March getaway was perfect, so we did get to enjoy the deck. Upon our arrival, there was a bottle of wine in our room, fresh cut flowers, and a box of chocolates. A king size bed was comfortable. There was a continental breakfast each morning and the fruits and pastries were fresh. We would stay there again without question!

Room Tip: go for the room with deck and king size bed!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Admiral Fitzroy Inn and had a wonderful time! We purchased a great deal that included our room, a bottle of wine, flowers, and a box of chocolate. Our stay could not have been more perfect! The Inn is in a wonderful location on Thames street-very easy to walk to lots of great restaurants, shops and down to the wharf areas. The inn keeper was very sweet and kind and answered all of our questions before and at time of arrival. We were very lucky to stay in a third floor room (#14) because we had a water view--it was really perfect! The room was decorated very nicely in a nautical/blue theme which was great for Newport. We were very pleasantly surprised as well that the room had it's own mini-fridge. The room was very well maintained and clean--we were very impressed. The bathroom was also nice and we thought they had some of the softest towels we have ever experienced! We loved the roof deck and lucked into nice March weather to enjoy it--we sat at the provided table and chairs and really enjoyed the sunshine. (Tip: if you would like a private balcony that can be viewed from the rooftop deck you should request room #18 or #19 as they had their own deck area attached to the room but you can see the main deck area from them as well). We thought everything at the Inn was wonderful and loved the breakfast--it included a variety of delicious cheeses, rolled ham, hard boiled eggs, cereals, croissants(delish!), bagels, english muffins, sweet breads (cinnamon and blueberry during our stay), a lovely mixed fruit salad, fresh yogurt, granola, coffee/tea and a variety of juices. My favorite item was the mini scones! We really enjoyed the dining area as well which was light and bright! The living room was also very nice and cozy. We will be back to the Admiral Fitzroy!

My husband and I had a quick weekend trip to Newport, RI and stayed at the Admiral Fitzroy Inn. We really enjoyed the stay and thought it was a perfect location. The rooms had a lot of character. We stayed in room 12 which had a large living area divided into two parts, one for the bed and the other for a trundle bed and tv. Families with kids would have enough space to roam around.

Breakfast was also ample and tasty. It wasn't quite a B&B style but it was well beyond a continental breakfast. We never left hungry. The staff were also very friendly.

The only reason this review didn't receive 5 stars was the matress tended to roll us into the center of the bed. But overall we would recommend the Admiral Fitzroy Inn

Like Edward 1956, we also stayed in the room behind the reception desk in October 2012. We were also surprised as we did not expect a small suite. It was very comfortable, sweet, and quiet. The breakfast provided by the Inn was delicious with many different options and served in a charming dining area, I particularly loved the ladies portrait that serves as a focal point. The staff at the Inn was courteous and very helpful! The Inn itself is very centrally located and within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. We really appreciated the parking lot in the back of the Inn, no need to worry where to park! We also loved their packages and like the choice of restaurants offered. Sardellas and Red Parrot are our two favorites! If you go, don't forget to go up to the roof! Great view! We really enjoyed our two night stay and hope to return the year!

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor, but they have an elevator so there is no need to hesitate about stayin...

Sue, thank you for this very nice review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay in October. You're the first person to mention the portrait of the lady! Many years ago we had an essay contest asking guests to "tell her story." Maybe we will try that again! We're also glad you mentioned our packages since they are a great way for guests to save and get a little "taste" of Newport. We recently added some new packages for 2014 and hope you'll come again to try them out.

Happy New Year to you! Thanks again for taking the time to write a review.
