Hydrangea House Inn
Ranked #3 of 95 Newport B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 3 January 2011

You will be hard pressed to find anything to complain about at The Hydrangea House Inn. The hosts are great people who are sincerely intent on looking after their guests in every way possible. Staying at this Inn greatly enhanced our trip as we really looked forward to the breakfasts, and to returning in the late afternoon for wine and cheese (and champagne and shrimp cocktail on New Year's eve) after a long day of sightseeing.

The house is perfectly situated to walk into town, to the beach, to cliff walk, to the mansions or anywhere else you would like to go in Newport. We only took the car out once to drive to a must-try Italian place on Thames called Mama Luisa's. Also, right along the same strip as the Hydrangea House is a gourmet grocer, an upscale wine shop, and just opened, Maison De Cocoa (amazing hot chocolate, truffles), run by a delightful woman, Michelle. The Inn is going to partner with Michelle to offer a chocolate lovers weekend - that will be amazing, I'm sure.

To summarize, you just can't go wrong staying here; lovely house, great hosts, great location, rocking breakfasts (amazing coffee!), a pleasure all around.

My husband and I celebrated New Years Eve @ the Hydrangea House. Even before we arrived, we were presented with Grant and Dennis' hospitality. Because of a snow storm, we were delayed by a day. Grant couldn't have been kinder on the phone taking away my worries. The rooms are warm and cozy, outfitted with fireplaces and jacuzzis. The breakfasts were so tasty and creative. There was also wine and cheese once you returned from a day of sightseeing. Let's not forget about lovely, sweet Rosie, the inn's perky little dog. My husband and I can't wait to return!

Our room was amazing! It was more of a suite with a gas fireplace, flat screen TV and a comfortable and relaxing seating area, in-room Jacuzzi tub, large bathroom with an amazing steam room and a very comfortable big brass bed. Most rooms in the Inn are like suites, very large, with just about everything you would want. The breakfast each morning was delicious, as well as the wine & cheese which was served at 4:30pm each evening. When returning from our evening out each night there were delicious homemade cookies left for a sweet midnight treat. This is such a beautiful Inn where the Innkeepers are friendly and provide just the right amount of pampering to their guests. The Inn provides off street parking for their guests and is located in walking distance from Thames Street where all the shops and restaurants are located. We were already planning a trip back to this wonderful Inn before we even left! A perfect place to get away during the week or the weekend! We will be going back next month!

Had an amazing weekend stay with Grant and Dennis. They were very gracious and accommodating hosts. Their staff was equally wonderful. Rooms were elegant in every detail, warm, homey and comfortable. Breakfast was gourmet fare and served in a lovely dining room. The communal atmosphere was a delight. The evening wine and cheese reception was a great way to meet new friends and share the experience of Newport. Our whole trip was a delight and we will definately return.

My husband and I have done many day trips to Newport, but this was our first time staying the whole weekend in Newport. We had no idea which B&B to pick in Newport and based our decision to stay at the Hydrange House Inn based on the excellent tripadvisor reviews. We are so glad that we chose this classic, beautiful New england B&B! From the moment we arrived, we were treated with some of the best service I have ever experienced. We got an incredible deal by finding a great internet rate to one of the smaller rooms at the Inn. Upon arrival, we were told we were upgraded to one of the larger, upscale rooms, which was a nice surprise. We stayed in the "French Country" room that was beautiful decorated in blues and yellows with a jetted jacuzzi tub, fireplace and country ambience. In the morning we were treated to a gormet breakfast in the most beautiful dining room; in the afternoons we were treated to wine and the most delicious gormet cheeses; and in the evenings there were always freashly baked cookies on the mantle. What a treat after coming home from dinner! The Inn is perfectly located in downtown Newport. It is within a 10 minute walk (maximum) to all of the shops and restaurants and located on the same street that all of the mansions are on. If you are looking for an upscale B&B, top notch service or a romantic, cozy getaway - look no further!

If you want to to be pampered and spoiled in beautiful surroundings- this is the only place to stay while visiting Newport. I have stayed at this lovely inn many times over the last 13 years. I have never been disapointed. The inn itself is beautiful. The decor is elegant and luxurious. Each room is more beautifully appointed than the last. Breakfast served in the beautiful dining room is delicious and special. My new favorite is the egg nog french toast- a perfect holiday treat. The owners, Grant and Dennis are warm and wonderful hosts. They go above and beyond to make their guest feel welcome and pampered. An added treat in the evenings are the home made chocolate chip cookies awaiting guests when they return to the inn after dinner. Every time I leave the Hydrangea, I can't wait to return!

From the moment you enter the Hydrangea House parking lot until the moment you leave Dennis, Grant, Staff and Rosie treated us like family. Our every wish was granted and we felt like royalty. The room was clean and well appointed with 2 person spa, steam bath and fireplace. The turn down service was a very nice touch with soft music playing from the stereo/clock/CD. Very romantic. The food....well there are not words that can describe the morning feast served by the friendly staff. Our stay was an experience I will never forget and I look forward to returning again soon for another romantic interlude.
