“Great rooms and location”
Reviewed 10 August 2012

My husband and I have stayed here on two occasions, both during the summer. The rooms are very impressive and well appointed . Having a separate bedroom and living area with a fully equipped kitchenette was very nice. The location is excellent - walking distance to shops, harbor, and restaurants. The only drawback was the view. If you go, make sure you get a view of the harbor, and not the construction sight on the other side! Also, I would recommend getting a "loft" room so that you will also have your own balcony.

Room Tip: This hotel has no pool

After I read TripAdvisor reviews, I was concerned about the noise from the nightclub downstairs which, interestingly, was not an issue for us since we stayed on the 3rd floor. Our noise problem came from the neighbors ABOVE us! The 4th floor has townhouse units and I guess those units attract larger families or groups. During our one week stay, we had two different groups of people upstairs over us, and for two nights the noise was unbearable...slamming of the sliding glass doors, stomping, screaming and partying until after 4am. The problem with the resort is no one is on staff after midnight so there is no one to complain to. It was horrible! My other complaint is that, I called the resort prior to our stay and spoke to a gentleman who was very curt and not so helpful. I don't know who that was but I suspect its the same person who other reviewers spoke about. On the other hand, Ramona, the person who checked us in and was on duty for most of our stay was VERY friendly, welcoming and helpful.

The noise issue and the curt staffer was unfortunate because the rest of our stay was magnificent. The property is clean and the units are clean, spacious, comfortable (the bed linens are so plush you don't want to get out of bed!), modern, and very well maintained. The daily housekeeping service was great. If possible, a television in the bedroom in addition to the one in the living room would be a welcome addition. Another suggestion would be to have assigned parking spaces for each unit. The scramble for parking spaces late at night was a bit stressful. The continental breakfast was nice. Our unit was a one bedroom and did not have a balcony but there was a very nice sitting area at the end of our hallway. The location is the best...right in the middle of everything! The property is in walking distance to all the best restaurants and clubs and right on the wharf! And, it's a very short drive from other attractions and the beach. It was our first visit to Newport and we would definitely return to this property again IF we were able to stay on the 4th floor!

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a unit on the 4th floor, even if you have to pay a little more!!

Thank you for your recent review and kind words about the Newport Bay Club. We are pleased that you were delighted with the cleanliness and maintenance of the property and your suite. The bed and the linens are one of our most recent upgrades and have prompted many positive comments from both our repeat guests as well as those who are trying us for the first time.

All of our luxury suites and townhouses have been recently renovated. There are now granite kitchens, slate dining areas, marble bathrooms as well as new carpeting and plush living room furniture. We are constantly improving all the rooms to satisfy our guests.

I do apologize for the noise problem that you encountered and promise that we are very vigilant about minimizing any potential bothersome noise. It is absolutely inaccurate that there is "no one to complain to after midnight". While our front office reservation area closes at midnight there is onsite security and parking assistance available until at least 4 am every day and maintenance/security is available 24 hours a day. We will obviously have to do a better job at ensuring that every guest is aware that there is always someone to assist them with any problem.

Our prime location, the reason for many favorable reviews, also brings with it the energy and vibrancy of downtown Newport. You mention hoping to try our 4th floor luxury townhouses when you return to Newport. These wonderful units located high above downtown, are not only quiet, but they are our most luxurious and these bi-level one and two bedroom units also include multiple private decks to observe the City and the harbor front.

Again thank you for your review. We will continue to strive to improve so that your next visit will hopefully exceed all of your expectations.

This trip was our first time at the Newport Bay Club.We booked lat minute and got such a good deal, I was a litle nervous of what to expect. The room was way biggert han I imagined. I think the living/ dining room was 20x14. It had a pullout couch, two chairs and a dining table with six chairs. Our kitchen must have been recently remodled because the cabinets, counters, floor and appliances all looked new. Both bedrooms had nice linens on them and the bathrooms looked like they were new too. Our room didn't have a deck, but there is a sitting area at the end of the hall. The AC was a little loud, but I didn't hear any other noises; no one walking or talking in the hall, no doors slamming and no music from downstairs as some other people said they did. There was plenty of room for my family of 5. The breakfast that's included was not as awful as some people wrote about. There were muffins, pastry, fresh fruit, coffee, milk and juice. There was enough there to satisfy us until lunch and it beat having to eat out every morning. I wne to the front desk to ask about a couple of things in the area and the woman there was extremely helpful. It's right in the middle of everything, so you can walk to anything in downtown Newport. If you're looking for glitz and Newport opulance, go somehwere else and pay 2 or 3 times as much. If you want a nice big room at a great price, stay here.

This was our 2nd stay at Newport Bay Club. We love this location and always reserve the one bedroom townhouse as it is spacious and has two bathrooms, small kitchenette, etc. There are two balconies, one off the living room and one off the bedroom upstairs. We would not sit on the chairs as they were dirtly. The cleaning staff should at least clean them so we could enjoy this amenity. The front office staff needs customer service training - not very friendly. When we checked out the front office manager, Josh, barely looked at us and never asked if we enjoyed out stay, etc. We will most likely stay here again as I mentioned the location is superb and room is clean and rates reasonable for summer.

Location is amazing! Center of everything with many great restaurants in walking distance. Townhouse itself was nice and balconies had fantastic views. Service was awful. Very rude in all dealings with front desk. Often times had to call front desk at least twice to even get someone to answer. Location makes it worth it but service needs improvement.

We spent 3 nights at Newport Bay. The townhouse that we rented was spacious with 2 decent sized bedrooms, living room, kitchen area and dining area. Also a fantastic full bath and small but nice half bath. The kitchen area was well-done - cherry cabinets, granite countertops, but is a kitchenette only - small fridge, sink, micro, dishwasher. It worked great for us since there are dozens of restaurants a short walk away and we didn't plan on cooking anyway. There were 3 balconies which were private and afforded a great view of the wharf area. Plenty of room to sit, have a glass of wine, and people watch from 4 stories up. And again, the location can't be beat - it's a very short walk to all the restaurants, shops and sites downtown.

Staff was helpful and friendly. Plenty of parking behind the hotel. If you're looking for a great place to enjoy Newport right in the middle of it all, with lots of room to relax, this is ideal, unless you prefer a more "hotel" experience.

Room Tip: Townhouse balconies on both sides catch the sun, and both sides have incredible views of the water...

Spacious for a good price. Renting one room for a couple, got a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath, kitchenette, for a rate lower than most hotels in this pricey area. Downsides -- a bit shabby, no hotel like services (tho do have small breakfast). On balance, just fine. 3.5 stars! The longer we are here the better we like it. Right on Thames Street.
