“Best NJF”
Reviewed 20 August 2013

What a pleasant night it was... After running around all day enjoying soulful jazz from 3 different stages, while observing Ramadan, I was very lucky my sister booked room #9 of seaman's Church for me. Comfortable room, nice ocean view, very peaceful with A/C on fingertips. Many bars & live clubs right along the harbor as extension of the NJF. I'll recommend Seaman's Church to anybody who can Dig it.... Best of Newport.

Room Tip: Take room # 9, high top on the corner, ocean view ....

The rooms were amazing. Beautiful view of the ocean, a/c, and was so quite that you could hear beautiful sound of the ocean. The costumer service was FANTASTIC. Not to mention the amazing food they serve in this wonderful establishment. I would recommend this to anyone going to visit Newport. Whether its for the Jazz Festival or just for tourism

The Good -
Prime location , in the heart of downtown. You just step out of the door to an array of pubs, shops, & restaurants. Damn good place for the price, I payed $119 for a Saturday night, other hotels in the vicinity were over $200.

And the Not so Good -
The air conditioners take a bit of time to do what they are designed to do, if you are looking for an instant chill you might be disappointed. The bathroom is shared but clean and well maintained. Parking is a pain in Newport, wish they had their own parking area.

One more point: you are not allowed to drink or smoke

Overall - for the price a very decent place to stay for a night

We were in Newport for a wedding the same weekend as the Tennis Hall of Fame Championships. All of the hotels and b&bs in the area were booked or very expensive. We took a gamble and stayed at the Seaman's Church at half the cost of any other room we could find.

Location: You can't find a better place to stay in Newport. The proximity to shopping, dining and the water were unbeatable.

The staff were all very helpful and personable. They gave us tips on where to go and what to do. If you need anything, just ask. I needed a blow dryer and the maid found one for me. The chef also helped on my pursuit of a blowdryer before I found the maid.

The rooms are very comfortable. We had a view overlooking Bowan's Wharf. There are 2 shared bathrooms for the 8 guest rooms. We thought this was going to be an issue. I read a review about a faulty lock where a woman was showering when someone walked in to use the restroom. They seemed to have fixed the lock because both restrooms felt very secure and private.

Each restroom has a door that locks so that you have privacy to the shower, toilet and sink. I only had to wait for a restroom on Sunday morning when it seemed mulitple rooms were checking out at the same time. Other than that, the hallway and restrooms were empty and clean.

If you have a car during peak season, there are nearby lots that you can pay to park for the entire day or there is metered parking outside the church. The metered parking is $1.25/hr 3 hours max from 9am to 9pm. You can park overnight for free

I highly recommend staying here. If we ever go back to Newport, we would definitely come back.

What a great place to stay while in Newport on a boat. It has a wonderful café with great food and very comfortable setting. A lot of locals go there to eat. I like to sit in the lounge which used to be the library and relax and enjoy my meal. there is also a cute little park out the side door.

Stayed there for a sailing regatta for four nights and the people and the location was just perfect. It was really nice to find out how accessible the rooms and bathrooms where. Plenty of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Would defiantly stay again.
