“Bring your kite”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

A nice, free state park on one of the great ocean drives in the US . Great kite flying, so bring the kids. One of many stops in Newport, there's nothing in the way of amenities, but the drive is spectacular, and it's a great place for a picnic. Hot tip - park in town and bike out here (10-15 miles round trip, but all flat - can be windy)

“My favorite place to just sit and relax on the Atlantic Ocean”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

There is no better place to just sit and relax and zone out looking toward the Atlantic Ocean/New England. People watching at its best, Mansion vista's galore, the sites, sounds and smell of the Atlantic Ocean have been bringing us here for decades.

“So beautiful!”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

This is a place you really should see while visiting Newport. My boyfriend and I visited the mansions, then we came to this park during sunset. So beautiful with the water right there. A man was even fishing from one of the giant rocks! Love it there.

“Newport Kite Festival at Brenton Point State Park”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

Great time at the Newport Kite Festival the weekend of July 12-13th (website: http://www.newportkitefestival.com/). The park is easy to find, just a few minutes outside of downtown Newport. The park is huge and has amazing views! Plenty of FREE parking.

For the kite festival there were tons of people who had kites tethered the entire time. There was a small place with a few vendors - one kite seller, lemonade, a bbq place and that's about it. Most people brought their own food (highly recommend doing so). Some people had set up those huge canopy tents and had their outdoor grills going!

The actual agenda for the kite festival was pretty interesting. They would have a few kites out at a time such as battle kids, show kites (these are those cool huge kites that end up being whales or blowfish). They also have a candy drop for kids which basically means they drop a bunch of candy out of a kite and all the kids run for their lives to get some. The agenda changes every 30 minutes.

There are clean restrooms at the park that are available for us, as well as a few portopotties if you don't want to wait in line for the restroom. Be sure to take a walk down to the shore just across the street from the park to collect shells or dip your toes in! Overall great day and worthwhile event to attend.
