The Admiral Farragut Inn is a historic in built around 1702. Understand we were British Colonies when this was built. There were no elevators in 1702, and thus a building built in 1702 shouldn’t have one. Our room was a very spacious room on the third floor with plenty of head clearance, and a very comfortable king sized bed. If there any sprits at the Admiral Farragut Inn it slept as well as we did.
From the moment we arrived our host was there for us. He clearly showed this Southern that the great hospitality can be found in Rhode Island. The location is a just a block off the wharf and shopping district. Don’t expect bagels and cream cheese for breakfast. What you can expect is your chose of freshly prepared pancakes, French toast, if the doesn’t suit your taste how about a mouth watering omelet. You’ll also find fresh Hot Coffee, Orange Juice, and fresh fruit.
The Admiral Farragut Inn is your chance to stay at the in a Bed & Breakfast that was built years before Paul Revere made his midnight ride declaring the British Are Coming.

Room in the attic was 8 x 8. Should have known better when "sharp" owner called day before to ask how tall my husband was! No coffee in the morning and unappetizing english muffins and other day old "toast your own" bread. Must say that it was nicely located but that's about it.

We booked this inn on a spur-of-the-moment urge to visit Newport and were dlighted with it.. The management and staff were wonderful. We were given a free upgrade to a first floor room (''The Admiral's Room'') with an impressive king-size bed that had ornate carved wooden posts and a mural on the wall across from it. The bath included a jacuzzi tub/shower. It was a hot day and the individually -controlled air conditioner was most welcome. The room, although on the small side, was clean and comfortably appointed in period pieces. We appreciated the onsite parking, as well as a delicious full breakfast, served in a sweet little breakfast room by a staff of solicitous young women. Although the building is quite old, it is located in a quiet, charming historical neighborhood just a block or two from Newport's main waterfront street. The cleanliness and coziness of our room, plus the pleasant helpfulness of the staff made us feel very comfortable. We will definietly stay here again when we next visit newport.

What a disappointing experience in this run down place. Although we were upgraded to a "better" room, the cleanliness and bed were disappointing.
There was a dirty duvet under the sheets, the yakuzi was worn and dirty and the room smelled musty.
Although we were promised and had paid for a full Amrican breakfast, we had to help ourselves from the refrigerator, the breakfast room was more like a passage way with no room for the guests.
The few breakfast cereals were no compensation for a full American breakfast.
The travel agency that had booked the room for us, Nato (North Atlantic Tourist organization) refused to contact us and reimburse us for another faulty booking that had happened before.
On leaving there was nobody there to say good bye!

Our room (The Generals Room) was nice and cosy, well set up and very much as expected. However the room for our daughter next door was not clean (cobwebs in the corners) and ants on her bed. That put her off.
The location is optimal.
Breakfast was not served at the inn but across the street. Evidently the owners have 4 inns in close proximity. All the other guests from the other inns also came to the same breakfast room with the consequence that they had to wait (only 4 tables in the room). This didn’t bother us as we were the early birds.

My husband and I DID NOT stay in this inn; however, no one is mentioning this little tip about the inn, so I will. We took the walking Ghost Tour through town (offered nightly-gives a lot of historic, interesting and fun info, a MUST DO) and the Admiral Farragut Inn is on the tour. Apparently, the Admiral's ghost has appeared to the staff in full military uniform from time to time. Also, this is a historic building--a few hundred years old with many original features--if that appeals to folks. Sorry to readers--I couldn't post my comment without rating the inn, so I gave everything average marks.
