“Memorable Memorial Weekend!!”
Reviewed 11 June 2011

We found the vanderbilt through tripadvisor for a last minute getaway to newport for the long weekend. amazingly, we were able to find rooms available - which made me suspicous at first. i think the rooms were available because the hotel's restaurant was under construction. anyway, we were able to get the 500 sq ft suite for a great deal.

1) Location is amazing - we have stayed in newport before, but this hotel's location is perfect for walking to all the stores, restaurants, etc.
2) Champagne brunch - included with room, good food and free champagne
3) Beautiful suite - this hotel is a converted mansion with real character to each room
4) Amazing service - very friendly staff and attentive to all needs

we've been to newport twice - once we stayed at chanler - cliff walk. both are amazing hotels, but i'd give the edge to chanler based purely on the hotel (rooms, bathrooms, etc). however, if you want to stay downtown, you can't beat vanderbilt.

Researched all the places to stay and was torn between VG and 41 North. SO glad we chose the VG.

First, the VG is up a quiet side street lined with historic buildings. 41 North is on the harbor and could get a bit noisy. The history of the VG in and of itself is a reason to go. I felt like we were part of history.

The grounds, staff, rooms... were impeccably done.. Waited on hand and foot but in a very friendly, "how did you enjoy your day" way. Not at all smarmy.

We chose one of the larger rooms with a view of the bay. Despite the not so large bathroom and the surprise that they did not have video on demand, we could not have asked for more. Quiet, gorgeous and lux.

The included breakfast was a nice surprise with lots of custom options.

we only saw the roof deck on the first day because of bad weather, but if the weather had been nice, i would have been up there reading every day.

could not say one bad thing about the VG. it's spoiled us. (i will also note that the stay two get third night free offer made the price tag very easy to swallow).

Thanks for spoiling us VG. wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Go now, go often!

We just got back from a two night stay at the Vanderbilt Grace and had a great experience. The hotel is lovely with an attractive, airy decor quite unlike the frou frou extravaganzas you often get in higher end New England hotels. It is also in a lovely location, across the street from a pleasant square and in the heart of a historic district (really the nicest part of the city) but only a couple blocks from the harbor. We had never been to Newport before, so when I say this is probably the best hotel in Newport take it advisedly. Still, I feel confident that the judgement would hold up.

We did have a couple problems, such as an automatic skylight curtain that didn't work one night and let light flood into the bedroom. But the hotel sent up an amazing person named Nick to help us and, even though he wasn't able to fix the skylight, he got us to move to another room and was so pleasant and helpful that it was almost a paradoxical high point of the stay. Service was all around excellent, and our toddler felt most welcome everywhere he went.

All in all a great experience.

Service and staff could not be any more friendly.
We have 2 small dogs and they had 2 pet beds in the room when we arrived for our stay.

I did quite a bit of research before finding Vanderbilt Grace. I had phone and email correspondence prior to our arrival and both were very efficient. Upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff who were only to happy to help with not only our luggage but with any questions. The staff are very knowledgable able the hotel and many of it's wonderful paintings. The spa experience was fantastic we decided to have both our evening meals in the hotel and each night we were treated to delicious cuisine. The bar/restaurant manager and his staff were very welcoming and were only too happy to accommodate us in any requests we had. The chocolate croissants that are serviced at breakfast are just to die for. It's about a 2min walk from the hotel down the road into the center of Newport and all the shops. We decided to walk every where so from the hotel we walked to "The Cliff Walk" and ended at The Breakers. It was a very pleasant walk and plenty of things to see a long the way - St Mary's Church (where JKF was married) the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Not to mention more lovely shops and places to eat. We were so thrilled with our weekend at Vanderbilt Grace that we intend to return very soon. Loved everything about it.
