“Great experience at Thames House Guest House”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2013

The Guest House is in a great location, near to everything. The owners couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. The place was very clean and bright. There was plenty of room for my family and children. A great backyard and patio made eating outside a pleasure. We hope to return. I highly recommend staying there.

We had an amazing time staying at Thames House in the Blue Suite. It was our first time in Newport and Pat made us feel extremely welcome and gave us so much info on what to do and where to go. Her and her daughter were so hospitable and made us feel like we were staying with family. The continental breakfast was perfect with lots of fresh fruit, many cereals, cakes, homemade muffins, tea and coffee to choose from. The room and bathroom were totally spotless with even toiletries provided. The king sized bed was super comfortable and our room felt like a relaxing escape. The house is walking distance to all the action in Newport and we were thrilled to find such a great place our first time here. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: The Blue Room is the only room with bathroom in the room but it doesn't really matter because th...

The negative points made by the reviewer freewingy below are somewhat factually correct, but I could put a different spin on it. I like staying with relatives, even if I have to spend $250, so I guess our perspectives are different.
The owners are warm people. They have guests who have been visiting for over a decade; they even attended the wedding of the guests' daughter. We parked in a resident parking zone and did not use the resident tag from the hotel, but they took care to put in their business card in the windscreen with a note for the cops in case we got ticketed. We had visited some common places, so we had stories to share. Very good food recommendations.
The accomodation is well-furnished, but fairly basic, in terms of the location of the bathroom, type of mattress, kind of breakfast, type of TV, lack of central air, etc., but I tend not to care about these issues. I enjoyed the conversations, and will gladly stay there again. Apologies for the delayed review.

This B&B made our stay in Newport (and holiday in New England for that matter), and I can't say enough good things about it. Gary and Pat made my mum and I feel right at home and were great company as well as sources of information on what to do/avoid in Newport.

We stayed in the Blue Suite, which was spacious, very clean, quiet, and has a great power shower. Breakfasts were plentiful with lots of fresh fruit and exquisite homemade muffins, and a wide selection of cereals, bread, tea, coffee, juice etc. An added bonus is their delightful dog Onyx, who bounded up to us in excitement upon arrival.

Tip is to leave the car at the B&B and walk initially through the array of houses from the 1700s just west of Thames Street. Then grab a bus pass at the bus station and head to at least one of the mansions (we did Marble House which is breathtaking). If you're into walking/jogging then the Cliff Walk is best first thing in the morning when you only have the fishermen for company! It also allows you to see many of the mansions from another vantage point.

Hope to make it back to Newport someday for a longer stay, best of luck Gary & Pat in the meantime!

Its like staying with your relatives but having to pay $250 for it. We had a 'private' bath room in a common hallway, which was interesting. The owners stay at the house year round so when you return late or wake up you hear the family around the house. I am not fussy about where I sleep but i have to say that the bed was uncomfortable and the pillows where massive and rock hard.
I realize Newport is pricey and places get filled up, but i'd pay a little more to stay at a hotel instead.

We were sorry to hear that you felt that your stay with us was less than satisfactory. We feel that our prices are in line with (or less than) most comparable establishments in the area. As an owner-occupied and operated establishment, we take pride in our availability to respond to our guests' needs. As in many historic houses, most bathrooms are not located within the guest rooms but are exclusive to a particular room, they are not shared baths. We do have one room, the Blue Suite, which does have the bathroom en suite. Extra pillows are also provided in each room and we apologize if that fact was not adequately conveyed to you. Had your concerns been communicated to us during your stay, we would likely have been able rectify any issues so that your stay would have been more enjoyable.

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Blue Suite room for a long weekend in August that coincided with the Newport Beer and Wine Festival. After renting from a different property for the last few years, we decided to try a new place, and are so glad we did.

The Blue Suite provided plenty of room for the two of us as well as a private bath. At breakfast, we were treated to a wide selection of fresh fruit as well as delicious homemade muffins and coffee cakes.

Patricia and Gary were the ultimate hosts and catered to our every need - from letting us borrow their mountain bikes, to offering up their DVD collection, to recommending hot spots that were off the beaten path. They made us feel so welcomed that it was difficult to leave after the perfect long weekend. We're already looking forward to next year and spending some more time at 15 Thames with Patricia, Gary, Kelly and Onyx!
