“Enjoyed Fluke”

A couple friends recommended this place but I at first had other ideas. After perusing a few menus on the wharf, we decided we liked what this place offered. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Though it was a Friday night, it wasn't too crowded and we had a corner table so we were comfortable. A bottle of wine and some small plates to share and we were quite happy. It was a great spot on a cool night as they do not have any outdoor seating.

“Simply fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2013

General/Atmosphere: My husband and I visited Newport for our last hurrah before we have a baby. After reading through tons of reviews and trying to separate the schlocky from the real, we decided on Fluke for a Friday night diner (over a long weekend). The receptionist told us that she wouldnt have a table but gave us other options that we were ok with. When we got to Fluke, the staff was very accomodating (I was heavily pregnant) and the seating was actualy even better than a traditional table because the upstairs space is very creatively arranged. It was romantic and intimate and cute. Admittedly the tables upstairs are close together but we're from NYC so we don't really expect to have miles of space around us and we were there to talk to each other so how much space do we really need? Not too loud and waitstaff was attentive and helpful without being too pushy or interrupting.
Food: EXCELLENT. Everything was well seasoned and yummy. My husband is a picky eater and he cleaned his plate. Even the drinks were good because he was raving about his cocktail. Dinner was so good on Friday, we went back on Saturday night and were quite content to sit at the bar just so we could have a nother awesome meal!

“Great place for drinks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2013

My husband and I ventured to Fluke after dinner on a Sunday night (kind of late, 10:30ish) for drinks after a recommendation from a local earlier in the day. The door was locked, so we called the number and explained we were outside, but there for drinks. The owner immediately greeted us at the door and could not have been nicer. We went all the way up to the top bar. What a great view! The atmosphere was truly unique, and the restaurant was decorated beautifully. Our bartender was a doll and the drinks (esp. the grape crush) were tasty. I immediately wished we had another night in Newport to have dinner at Fluke. Next time. The drink prices were a little steep, but I get it, the place is in the heart of the downtown.

“Great food, funny rules”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2013

Went to Fluke with my husband for a night out in Newport. We had reservations and were seated promptly. The restaurant is as described by others. It's decor is minimal, but inviting. The tables are close together so not a great place for a romantic evening. We ordered a nice bottle of pinot noir and then asked for a couple of tapas. We were told that you cannot order a couple of tapas. You must put your entire order in at once. We asked how big the tapas were and the server told us that you should order 3-4 each - so eight altogether. We ordered 5 and an entree of scallops with a couple of sides. Way too much food, but the food was great! The prices were a bit hefty for some of the small plates, but the food was wonderful. On the rule for ordering all at once... hated that part so that is way I rated it an average. For customers who have no idea what the size of the small plates are..this is tough and costly. The restaurant is in either a win or loss situation by doing this. It is a loss because I didn't like the rule of ordering all at once. It is a win because you probably order more than you need to!

“Really good meal, a little loud”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2013

Nice place, we'd recommend it,food was very good and service excellent. Tables are close and there happened to be a loud (fun) table near us, but that's what happens down town! We enjoyed our dinner and would go back.
