“What a surprisingly amazing stay...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2012

I must say that I was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews on this site, and I didn't go into my long weekend expecting much. Not to discredit what others have stated...everyone has their own experience, but mine was FLAWLESS!!! Gorgeous spacious room, excellent service, easy to get to...I don't have a single complaint (well...coffee available in the lobby would've been nice, but that's just getting nitpicky).

I would also like to say that whoever checked us in (I didn't catch her name, but the blonde girl who worked on Friday) was phenomenal. I'm actually a hotel General Manager, and I used to have a Best Western several years ago. Management: This employee is the IDEAL...courteous, knowledgeable, efficient, Brand Identity...everything you ask for and more - do not let her get away!

The hotel is a little off the beaten path of Downtown Newport, but it does NOTHING to affect your stay, or your access to anything you want to do. I actually found it more convenient than being right in the heart of everything - I think it made it more relaxing to get back at the end of a long day.

Again...great stay, great hotel, great staff - loved every minute of it!!! Thanks!

I've stayed here a few times taking advantage of the "stay and play" rate in conjunction with the Newport Grand Casino across the street. The rooms have been clean and comfortable. The shower in the room I had this time was terrific. There was an old-fashioned large tube t.v. which could use updating to a flat screen. There were many channel options. A nice table and two chairs were also in the room. There was an annoying clicking sound that I heard from time to time and I think it was coming from the heating unit but I did learn to ignore it. The hotel could use some updating. Also, make sure to tell them you didn't use the room's safe or they'll charge you an extra $1.50. I dislike that practice. How much money do they make per night on that? Nearby is a smal Wal-Mart, supermarket, eateries, etc...

Room Tip: Try to get a room in front so you can see your car and the Pell Bridge lit up at night.

For about a third of the cost of other area accomodations, The Mainstay Inn was clean and comfortable. We had a suite, and it was great for two adults and two teens. We did have to drive to town but it was only about 5 minutes away. I would definitely stay here again. Breakfast one morning was excellent too. Highly recomend!

Room Tip: Suites are a great bargain and extremely roomy

This property is in SERIOUS need of a renovation. The hallways are gloomy and dingy, and the rooms are inconsistent in quality. Mine was on the second floor and was pleasant enough, but the friends I was with had one on the first floor and it was much older.

The main issue with this hotel though is the walls are PAPER THIN. I'm not exaggerating- you will get zero sleep. Every time anyone leaves or enters a room, the doors SLAM shut. They're not designed to slowly (and silently) swing shut so they will make your walls shake. I could also hear every conversation through the walls, as well as people watching TV. I could even hear my neighbor SNORING. It was absolutely awful.

There is no way I would stay at this property again. Do yourself a favor and pick somewhere else!

Room Tip: Higher floors seem to have more renovated rooms, and you want as few people as possible above you du...

We stayed for 2 nights during the Newport Winter Festival in mid February. The room rate was $53 a night and we had a very large room with 2 double beds, a pull out sofa, refrigerator, and microwave. The room was very clean. The beds were fine for 2 nights of sleeping. There wasn't much to the hotel but a small lobby and adjoining restaurant (which we did not eat at). I don't think the hotel was very crowded so it wasn't noisy. It was a five minute drive to downtown Newport and across from a large shopping center.

You do have to go drive to do anything, but for the price it was definitely worth it. As an aside, would definitely recommended the Newport Winter festival...a lot of fun activities!

My wife and myself like to go on mini vacations without going over any bridges. Of all the hotels on Aquidnech Island the Mainstay Inn has always been our favorite. It has a great bar/resteraunt with lots of great food and a diversified menu. The staff were just incredible and saw to our every need. The room was large, comfortable and VERY clean. It also had fantastic features such as free high speed wifi, in room microwave. fridge, coffe pot. hairdryer. One of the cleanest bathrooms we have ever seen loaded with an iron and ironing board, shampoo, soaps and moisturisers. We highly reccomend this hotel. It is right off the highway, reasonably priced and the place to stay in Newport RI.

We had orign.ally booked 2 nights here, but both of us were sick & couldn't complete the drive from Quebec City, so we called at the last minute to let them know we would arrive a day late. We knew that we would pay for the missed night, but we didn't have a choice.

We arrived after driving through a nasty rainstorm & when we got to our room were pleasantly surprised to find that we were upgraded to a suite because we paid for 2 nights & only stayed one.

The woman at the front desk (sorry, can't remember her name) was wonderfully helpful. We needed to make a couple of copies & fax a document & she took care of us for no charge.

Because we were sick & because the weather was awful, we ate luch, dinner & breakfast the next morning at the hotel. While not a gourmet restaurant, the food was adequate & reasonably priced for a hotel. Service was friendly & efficient.
