Loved the location - off a quiet street in Newport, within walking distance to the Cliff Walk, marina, and other restaurants. Mark and Lauren were so helpful with recommendations and were around during the day and early evening which is nice for questions and recommendations. Marks breakfast of a Portugese omelet was delicious, and he let us use their bikes to your Ocean Rd as well. Lauren continually gave my husband extra cookies as well offering us different varieties for our sweet tooth!

We booked the Brass room for 3 persons. Ik was really a wonderful nice room, in white and blue colors. The king bed was super nice and very high. The breakfast is also super! You can choose from a card and the friendly owner, Mark Spring is making the breakfast for you.Newport is a must-see if you visit the Boston area. The mansions are beautiful! Also the houses and the harbor in Newport, we made a lot of pictures! We come from Holland and hopefully we ever can come back!!

Room Tip: When you travel with 3 persons the Brass room is very comfortable!

This was our second time staying here and we enjoyed it every bit as much as the first. It is very professionally run with lovely accommodations and a first class breakfast. We booked our same room for next year before we left! (Newport Folk Festival weekend)

My friends and I traveled to Newport to visit the mansions and were looking to find a nice affordable place. We stumbled upon this Bed and Breakfast and were very happy with our stay. Overall, it is a nice place, we stayed in the Brass Room. The king bed was extremely comfy, but the single bed was hard as a rock. The breakfast was good but portions are small. It is a residential area not in the heart of town, it's a bit of walk to get into town. They also enable you to buy the tickets to the mansions there which is convenient. Overall, I enjoyed my stay.

Mark is a wonderful host. Always available to offer information, friendly conversation and a delicious breakfast. Perfect location away from busy town but a short walk away. We will definitely return again.

My husband and I stayed at the Marshall Slocum Guest House Sunday night for a nearby wedding and this is one of the better B&B's we have stayed at in Newport. The set up of our room had a spiral staircase leading up to the bathroom which was not the most convenient layout but it was the only room available. The room had definitely been renovated/painted recently, there were nice build-ins in the closet, bathroom was new, there was good water pressure, it was very clean and had a working a/c that cooled the room down quickly. The owner was pleasant and easy to deal with. Parking was behind the building which is convenient for leaving surfboards on the roof and it is walking distance to downtown (location is only a block or so past the Viking). The B&B has a beautiful teak deck out back to relax or have breakfast; unfortunately we slept in and missed breakfast but it smelled delicious and we will be back here for sure to try it. For those not familiar with Newport, they had plenty of brochures for exploring and you can rent bikes directly from the B&B. They also offer some great midweek specials.

Our group of 8 tennis friends stayed at the Marshall Slocum one night while attending the grass court championships at the Newport Tennis Hall of Fame. This is a B & B (in a very old house) which was well run, very clean and included a delicious breakfast (menu included blueberry stuffed french toast!). The rooms are each unique in their decor and accommodations. I stayed in a nice room on the third floor (lots of stairs) which had a very comfortable king-size bed. However the layout was a little odd in that the toilet and shower were in one room while the sink/closet was behind a separate door. Not a super sanitary set-up, but not unexpected in an old house which originally probably had minimal indoor plumbing! I considered it part of the charm. (I did have friends who stayed in a smaller room with a queen size bed and a rather loud AC unit who were not as pleased as I was.)
The walk to the waterfront was fairly easy and there are so many restaurants and shops in Newport that it's always fun to visit! We brought our own wine, cocktails and snacks which we enjoyed on the back deck after shopping. We also were allowed to leave one of our cars at the B & B while we went to the tennis matches, which was very nice of them!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a king-size bed and a larger bathroom if possible. No elevators, so avoid 3rd flo...
