“Perfect location in Newport with attention to details and service.”
Reviewed 14 July 2013

The inn is a perfect home away from home and is close to everything Newport has to offer.
The rooms are spacious and clean with lots of details that makes them warm and welcoming and the decor makes you feel as being a part of the gilded age.
One of the best things about the place is the innkeepers that make you feel welcome and they are also a great source of information about Newport and surroundings. The breakfast is amazing with new dishes every day where quality and attention to the details is never forgotten. The only bad thing we have to say about The Architect's is that we unfortunately aren't able to go there more often.

Our family (two adults, two children) recently stayed at the Architects Inn. We had such a lovely time that I had to post a review of our stay. First of all, I was happy that we were able to get accommodations together in one suite - other bed and breakfasts required two separate rooms. The Perry Suite, where we stayed, was spacious, and my teenaged daughter had her own area to sleep and relax in the sitting room of the suite complete with a fridge and a television. The breakfasts each morning were divine - most (if not all) of the fruits were organically and locally grown. There was a nice variety too, such as strawberry pancakes and sausages with fresh fruit one morning or rosemary thyme biscuits with bacon and eggs another. We had a choice of two dining times - one for early risers and another for those that enjoyed sleeping in a little bit. The innkeepers also provided afternoon snacks each day such as homemade chocolate chip cookies or brownies with servings of tea, spring water, or sherry. The inn is located within walking distance of shops, restaurants, the infamous Cliff Walk, and the Newport mansions! We didn't need to use our rental car at all. If you are looking for a nice, quiet atmosphere with laid back innkeepers, hearty breakfasts, and a historical setting, you should try the Architects Inn. You won't be disappointed! Oh, almost forgot, one member of our family is vegetarian. The innkeepers had no trouble accommodating her diet at breakfast! In fact, they asked us before we arrived if we had any special dietary concerns. Both innkeepers, Nick and Bryan, were very gracious and helpful. The innkeepers themselves will make you want to come back for a return stay!

Room Tip: If you are not traveling with children or if you have one child, try the Redwood or the La Farge Roo...

After a tedious and long flight from Munich to Boston, a 2 hour drive
from Boston to Newport, and a short search I found the Architects Inn
finally. It is not far from the center of Newport but located in a
really quiet neighbourhood. The location is simply great, it is only 10
min walk to the nearest beach and the same time to the waterfront.
Architects Inn is ran by Nick and Brian who care not only for the house
and the garden but were absolutely helpful to make my stay as relaxing
and pleasant as possible. The rooms are clean and beautifully equipped
with old wooden furniture and historic painting on the walls. The
breakfast cooked by Brian is simply great. Each day a new surprise and
all this arranged with lots of love and taste. I spent many hours on the
spacious porch to prepare conference talks in the morning and to relax
in the evening. I really recommend the Bed&Breakfast and hope to come
back a future day.

This was our second visit to the Architect's Inn. We have been to Newport several times but from now on, we will always stay at the Architect's Inn. The rooms are spacious, welcoming and comfortable. The Inn is that place that makes you take a deep breath and relax. Brian and Nick are the most gracious of hosts. The breakfast is amazing! On this past trip they had the most delicious rosemary (the rosemary was fresh from their garden) biscuits with an apricot jam, yummy!! The rest of the breakfast was just as amazing. Brian and Nick also helped us to plan the rest of trip and each suggestions led us to have the most perfect stay! Thanks for making our stay special! We will be back!

What made our visit to Newport extra special was our stay at The Architects Inn. The Inn is impeccably well kept (not a dust bunny in sight) and has so much character! All the rooms are filled with beautiful antiques with awe-inspiring wallpaper (I came home wanting to fill every corner of my home with wallpaper). The beds were super comfy with luxe beddings. The carpets and floors were spotless that you won't mind walking around barefoot.

Nick and Brian were amazing hosts! Definitely chat it up with them- they know all the local happenings. We would've missed out on some fun stuff if it weren't for them. They basically helped us planned our entire visit. They're enthusiastic, funny and warm. They're definitely our go- to guys when we plan for our next visit to Newport.

When you walk through the door you instantly feel as though you've stepped back in time to an era of refined elegance. The house beautifully decorated with period furnishings, Nick and Brian are very gracious host's. The house is located in a beautiful quiet historic neighborhood a short walk to the business district, beach and mansions. We recommended Architects Inn to friends visiting us in Newport and Nick invited us to have breakfast with them during their stay. They are a class act.

I spent 3 nights here and the people who own it are very fullof themselves. In the name of history the place is gloomy and unwelcoming. There are rules and regulations everywhere and if you are on the third floor you will need to be fit! In fact there is a rule book provided. It is an awkward and uncomfortable place to stay. They remind you often that this is their home too. On the third floor the TV worked occasionally and there was no drinking glasses. THe hot water took quite a while to become tepid. In the words of the hosts - Go figure.

Architects G, Owner at Architect's Inn - George Champlin Mason House, responded to this review, 11 May 2013
Oh I just love responding to vague reviews. Well aside from the fact, this group of UK guests were very aloft and quiet, I do not have much to say because they all seemed so nice. I actually quite liked her friends staying downstairs. Her friends splurged and got a big room while she went frugal with the small room to save $25/night. She was by herself in her room so I thought it was a wise decision...but that was .her. decision not ours. They were independent and not really looking for much other than bop around town aimlessly. We often saw them lounging and relaxing or reading. They seem very low key. Whenever we asked how they were or if they needed anything the response was always pleasant, positive and they never seemed to be having any problems. Brian talked with them about their where they were from a bit and I talked to them about where their travels have taken them. We never got the sense that anyone was unhappy. In fact they brought up about doing a house exchange. I presume she doesn't speak for her friends.

I always have to laugh at these ..rules.. everyone talks about. We want people to have fun so we write down all our suggestions, do's and don'ts for Newport and information about the house such as wifi passcode and how to work the television (which surprising number of people dont know how to use), etc etc. The funny part is that it is almost all information there for the benefit of the guests, however some people see a bunch of words written down on paper and assume it is some sort of evil plot to hijack their vacation. Get over it, you book burners! We are trying to .help. and educate you! Her friends actually told us before they left that our tips were quite helpful during their trip. Clearly, she did not actually read it or she was making up words inbetween the lines.

And we are not full of ourselves. We are just Americans. Don't you watch American tv? We are all this way.....well...at least the dashingly handsome and especially perspicacious ones. ;-P
