There is a reason why there are so many 5-star review on this place--old management. Apparently Inns of Newport acquired this place back in April, and never bothered to update the website to reflect the lack of in-building breakfast and the fact that the couple who owned the place aren't around.
My fiancée and I chose this place based on old Trip Advisor reviews and on a coworker's rec; of course, aside from the "Part of the Inns of Newport" line on the website, we had no way of knowing that what they experienced was no longer available. Perhaps the funny bathroom cleaner smell and atrocious wi-fi (unusably slow) would have been forgivable if I had known beforehand that this place was no longer under the scrutiny of a couple who owned the place and lived in it. I would have been fine with having to leave the building and walk down the street to have breakfast if I didn't think I'd be able to roll out of bed and get some homemade granola (no longer existent). As it was, it is one of the cheaper b&bs around Newport, and it is in a historical building. If they decide to update the website so people know what to expect, that's one thing. It's another to operate under false pretenses. I can't recommend a place that can't update its own website.More
