The Melville is one of several inns run by the same group. There is parking in the back. Our room was very small, and the bathroom was miniscule and could use some serious updating. Breakfast is in a different inn, in a very small common area. We couldn't find a place to even sit down, so we went to a restaurant. The fire alarms went off around 7AM, which someone said was caused by someone's shower (?). Around 3am a group came in from partying and were quite loud for about 1/2 hour. It really was not the greatest experience, but at least the location was good.

Room Tip: I can only suggest you might not want room 4, just because the bathroom is so very small. But maybe they all are.

The Melville House is several period homes next to each other. It could not be in a more perfect location and on a historic street of homes from the 1700s. We had a suite for my daughter and me, and a room across the hall for my aunt. The beds were comfy, we had a place to park (that is key in downtown Newport) and a terrific breakfast. We were a bit chilly because we couldn't find the dial for the air conditioner (central air). It is noisy because you are in a home from the 1700s, so not a lot of insulation from the noise of other guests. But we had a wonderful time and we would definitely stay there again!

This was very deceptive..we booked the Melville house inn but when we got there they told us that we had to go to another location. The room was dirty,no t.v. airconditoner didn't work..we called and they took us to the next room which didn't have a running shower..the tub itself, was peeling from being painted over..Rick kept making excuses on why it looked that way..they trip was definitely not worth it and the Melville house should be off of this list of b&b's...

When we arrived Rick and Noah were the best! They gave us an upgraded room based on our needs and Noah even parked our car. I will be going back! The location was also perfect. Super easy to walk down to the wharf and enjoy the town.

Checked in for a one night visit to Newport. Upon check in, Rick upgraded us to a bigger room and complimentary breakfast was also given to us. It was such a nice surprise and really made our stay there that much better! In addition, Noah was able to drive/park our car since we weren't very comfortable with the tight streets. I highly recommend booking a stay here based on customer service and a fabulous location close to the wharfs!! Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable!!
