We love staying at the Hotel Viking. The hotel is beautiful, the staff is terrific and we love the location where we can walk downtown to shops and restaurants. Looking forward to staying in the warmer weather when we can enjoy the 4th floor bar.

The location, ambiance and hotel staff were wonderful. The men handling valet, especially the evening shift, were super friendly and kind. The bar was a bit overpriced and the quality of food was not that great (wings were fatty; burger not cooked fully). The room was beautiful and comfortable. The bathroom sink was not that great. The bowl is too high and the water facet extends too far into the bowl. The drainage and the water pressure for the sink was poor. On the upside, thankfully, the shower was wonderful! We didn't have time to try the spa but hope to at our next visit. One parting note, upstairs neighbors sounded as if they would crash through the floor while bathing and in the room. I realize you can't do anything about that but it might be nice to keep couples separated from families. Our trip was to be away without the kids so it was disappointing to wake up early to the sounds of a child crying.

Room Tip: If not traveling with children you might ask to be located in a different area (away from families).

The hotel has all the options one could want, a fine restaurant, indoor pool and health facility, parking, and a friendly, helpful staff. It is clean and comfortable, although many of the rooms in the original historic hotel are rather small. The fourth floor outdoor bar overlooks the harbor, it is a wonderful place for a drink. Please note the rates in the winter are heavily discounted, summer rates make the Viking one of the most expensive options, but especially for first time visitors an option worth taking.

Room Tip: Rooms in the original hotel tend to be small, avoid rooms in the high 350's, near a noisy ice ma...

A very nice hotel with friendly service. The hotel service was top notch from the front desk personnel to the bell hop. They were more than willing to give advice on breakfast or dinner. The rooms were well appointed with a smallish bathroom. It was a comfortable room though. I would recommend this hotel. Very clean in every respect.

This hotel is historic as well as luxurious. If you are looking for a relaxing weekend, I highly recommend Hotel Viking in the heart of Newport's historic district. The rooms are equipped with everything you need. The beds are soft and the quality of the linens are second to none. Also, the staff from the concierge to the bartenders are friendly and accommodating. I recommend the Spa, Pool and Sauna to add to your relaxing weekend. Where the hotel falls short, is in the restaurant. I experienced the "High-Tea." This event is inspired by the show Downton Abbey and highlights the Gilded Age when Newport was filled with America's most rich and famous. I was aghast when the the waitress brought us over our tray of "tea sandwiches." Our sandwiches consisted of egg-salad and tuna salad. I highly doubt the upper crust of Newport was dining on crust-less wonder bread and egg salad. There was also cucumber sandwiches and a sandwich with an artichoke spread. I would have given this hotel 5 stars, but the restaurant is lacking.

We stayed here for a recent one-night getaway. We received a great AAA rate and had a very comfortable Newport King room. I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews, but our room had plenty of space for a king bed as well as a little sitting area. The bathroom was large and had a roomy shower with good water pressure.

The location was wonderful to take in the shops and restaurants on Thames Street. There were also some additional shops and restaurants just a few blocks down Bellevue Avenue. We enjoyed being near the mansions and had a lovely drive down Ocean Ave.

Parking is a bit challenging. We arrived at check-in time along with many other people, so we decided to self-park. I'm not sure if we were in the self parking or mistakenly parked in valet, but the person at check-in was kind enough to give us a parking pass ($16 off-season) for our stay.

Be warned that the rooms run toasty -- although there is a thermostat in the room, it remained constantly at 68 degrees, even when we tried lowering it.

Room Tip: We were on the 4th floor near the elevator, so the room was convenient. It had a nice view of the co...
