Owner description: Verde Canyon Railroad is a Southwestern adventure that takes passengers on a ride through Arizona’s backcountry, only accessible from the comfort of this train. This legendary “boutique” attraction allows members of groups an uncommon view of a wildly-wonderful red-rock canyon. The four-hour excursion requires no laborious effort or exertion except by the highly-trained staff who absolutely love what they do. As evidenced by exceedingly positive reviews, they do it very well. Verde Canyon Railroad is the only excursion train in the Southwest which offers every guest two seats for the price of one: inside viewing through large panoramic windows in all coaches and 360-degree views from open-air viewing cars attached to each coach. As the train passes “through” a grand canyon, both vantages celebrate incomparable scenery, high-desert flora and fauna, historic trestles, dramatic geology, unusual rock formations and passage through a century-old 680-foot tunnel. Throughout the journey the captivating history of the Verde Canyon and the Railroad unfolds with narration interlaced with a wide genre of popular railroad tunes.

“Unforgettable train ride”
Reviewed 11 November 2013

Before I begin, kudos go out to our guide, Michael. He knows that countryside like the back of his hand. He was so friendly, accessible and informative. His insights helped us to appreciate the views even more. More kudos to our stellar bartender, Tracy! (Your prickly pear margaritas rock, girlfriend!) If you can afford to so do, traveling first class is the way to go. There were probably 20-30 or so people in our rail car. A champagne toast started our adventure. A snack bar with chicken wings, sandwiches, salads and desserts were provided. Please don't get the impression that this train ride was all about eating and drinking, though much of both were certainly going on. During the ride and whenever we wanted fresh air, we had the option of going to an outdoor railcar. This is where we, and many other folks, spent most of the time (cameras in hand). The views were breathtaking. Make sure your digital cams are powered up as you will definitely be taking videos and stills of so many magnificent views.

“Very relaxing afternoon”
Reviewed 8 November 2013

This train ride was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon, although they tried a little too hard to find things for us to look at. "Please look to your right to see the rock that is shaped like Godzilla. Now look to your right again to see a rock that is shaped like a turtle." There really weren't any great rock formations to see, and that's OK because the beauty is in the canyon itself, and the experience of being on the train. Four hours was just a little bit too long for me and I was glad that I did not upgrade to first class since I spent the entire trip outside in the viewing car anyway and there was plenty of room for everyone there.

I did enjoy this ride, but it was not exceptional in my opinion.

“NIce relaxing trip”
Reviewed 8 November 2013

We took this railroad trip through the canyon while staying in Sedona. Leisurely four hour round trip that gave you an idea of the area. Outside cars made it easy to take pictures. First class seating was very nice. Bring a lunch with you as the appetizers were minimal.

“Train ride to remember”
Reviewed 8 November 2013

We recently took a ride on the Verde Canyon railway. We booked first class tickets which gave us very comfortable seating with picture window views. We were greeted with a champagne toast and had access to a buffet lunch. Lunch included chicken wings, cheese and crackers, sandwiches and salad. We ordered Prickly Pear Martini's from the cash bar at a very reasonable cost of $5.00. There was an open carriage which gave us magnificent views of the Canyon. The guide on the open air car was Terry who gave us lots of information about the geology and history of the Canyon. We were thrilled to see Bald Eagles soaring overhead.
The train ride takes a leisurely four hours round trip. A most relaxing and enjoyable way to see a beautiful part of Arizona

“What a great experience”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

If you are going to be in the Sedona area do not miss this train ride. It is the absolute best tourist train that I have ever taken. We spent most of our time on the open car and saw some of the most spectacular scenery that we have ever seen. I hope that I have the opportunity to ride it again.
