Owner description: Verde Canyon Railroad is a Southwestern adventure that takes passengers on a ride through Arizona’s backcountry, only accessible from the comfort of this train. This legendary “boutique” attraction allows members of groups an uncommon view of a wildly-wonderful red-rock canyon. The four-hour excursion requires no laborious effort or exertion except by the highly-trained staff who absolutely love what they do. As evidenced by exceedingly positive reviews, they do it very well. Verde Canyon Railroad is the only excursion train in the Southwest which offers every guest two seats for the price of one: inside viewing through large panoramic windows in all coaches and 360-degree views from open-air viewing cars attached to each coach. As the train passes “through” a grand canyon, both vantages celebrate incomparable scenery, high-desert flora and fauna, historic trestles, dramatic geology, unusual rock formations and passage through a century-old 680-foot tunnel. Throughout the journey the captivating history of the Verde Canyon and the Railroad unfolds with narration interlaced with a wide genre of popular railroad tunes.

“All Aboard for a Beautiful and Relaxing Train Ride!”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

We went the week of June 9th while we were visiting Sedona for a family vacation and while the weather was hot, we still enjoyed the trip. We easily booked online a few weeks in advance and had no issues. We decided to do the first class and it was well worth it!

First class had reserved seating that was nice (2 person couches facing one another or tables of 2 all with a view) and included food (wings, sandwiches, salad, brownie bites, etc). This was a 4 hour train ride and the food was served for the first 2 hours and drinks were available for purchase the entire time.

We went back and forth between the outside and inside car. The outside car is definitely the better view! The staff were very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The train ride overall was very relaxing and had beautiful views of the Verde Valley. All five of us had a great time!

“Beautiful Scenery and Experience”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

We booked this trip based on a recommendation from a friend, and overall we are glad we did and we enjoyed our trip. The scenery is beautiful, if you are in to Western Scenery. While not as spectacular as the Grand Canyon, it is accessible in a relaxed air conditioned train car. Perfect for older visitors with limited mobility, as one of our party was. The food was good, and there was plenty of it, and the hostess that waited on us was very helpful and accommodating. The 4 hour trip seemed to pass pretty well, only started to drag during the last 30 minutes or so. Plenty of opportunities for photos, and we did see an Eagle and other wildlife in their natural habitat. The train station was very clean, as were the restrooms, and everyone we had contact with was friendly and helpful. We upgraded from Coach to First Class, and this is the only real issue that we had with the trip. They advertise that you will enjoy "living room comfort" in an air conditioned car. The brochure pictured comfortable couches for the first class cars, and this is true, with one caveat. We had a party of 3, and boarded and picked out a comfortable couch to sit on, and were immediately informed that the couches were for for parties of 4 or more, and we were moved to a table with four straight chairs. Not nearly as comfortable, not advertised or explained up front, and we felt that we had been deceived, and that they had misrepresented the first class fare to sell the seats there. They should make this clear up front, when you are purchasing the tickets. The lady we talked to did not. We would have been just as comfortable in Coach class, and if I were to go again, that is what I would book. If you have a party of 4 or more, then by all means book first class. If you have less than 4, then save your money and book Coach, and spend the money saved on snacks and beverages.

“Relaxing and Restful Trip”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

This is an almost four-hour train ride into the back country of Arizona. All cars are air conditioned and have a waiter for helping you from your seat if you wish. We chose First Class over Coach and I think it is a good decision. You get a little sofa instead of a bench seat and your own table. You either sit two at a table or four at a larger table. First Class has free snacks and they would make a meal--wings, sandwiches, salad, etc. The ride gets into places where you can not drive to so you feel like you're seeing some hidden Arizona. Scenery is beautiful, maybe not spectacular (if you're used to western scenery). Everyone seemed to love it as it is very casual and relaxing.

“Brilliant - We loved every minute of it.”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

We decided to book this just a few weeks before setting of on our 19 day road trip and we were really looking forward to it. We were so glad we booked it as it was just brilliant. We booked the first class coach and were glad we did and it was very spacious and the food they supplied was really very tasty. Our fellow passengers were very friendly and the staff in our coach were brilliant.
They had an Eagle on board our train which we were able to go and see and have pictures taken with.
The views from the train were lovely and we loved the commentary from the staff.
We certainly didn't get bored and the time passed really quickly for us. We spent the time popping in and out of the coach ad the outside viewing area, and sipping our cold beers!
We would highly recommend this trip.

“Too Long”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

The scenery is nice but 4 hours is way too long, scenery is much better viewed up close hiking in nearby sedona.
