“Less than mediocre these days”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

Used to be one of the best in Oahu. Now everything is "consolidated" from the beginning activities, although they are more than proud to show off the roasted pig to nauseum. Food was average, although one in our party didn't get to eat because her silverware was solidified together with food. Both forks solidly and the spoon had large chunks of something hard like of oatmeal or such we could never get the attention of waitperson until the end when she went to clear and the food was stone cold and hard. We were suppose to have the cost of one person's meal credited, but haven;t seen that yet. Now on to the show, don't leave to go to the restroom or you will miss it. It is that short now. It is the same show, only significantly shorter and smaller cast, as it has been for years. Nothing new, nothing particularly spectacular and actually rather sloppy and seemingly thrown together. Very disappointed especially from what it once was. This is a venue for those who qualify for it (self-supporting-MWR) and is less expensive, but clearly you get what you pay for and we won't take folks because we want to support our facilities with this type of product. Sad to say.

“Okay...sort of”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

My wife and I were not as impressed with the luau as other reviewers. We hadn't read all the reviews prior to buying our tickets and like another reviewer had missed (still not exactly sure where it says it) that this is 'military only' when we bought the tickets online. The people at the box office granted us an exemption and we were allowed to go in. The 'free' drink was a rum punch...very sweet and I didn't taste any alcohol. The food was okay....great pork but everything else was just ok. You got a plate with fish (overcooked), steak (chewy), chicken, pork, and some mashed potatoes. The portions of each were very small. It was a seated service, and I was still hungry after dinner. The show might have been good, except we had obstructed views. There was a huge column blocking our view (not mentioned when we bought the tickets that we were buying obstructed view tickets) and we really didn't want to stand for the performance. So we left before it was over. The whole thing felt very tourist-y and not even remotely authentic...

“A must see if you're at the Hale Koa”

They put on a great show and, unlike PCC, have alcohol :).
This is worth seeing and even better if you don't want to deal with traffic to another location.

“Great Tribute to Military”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

There are pros and cons to every luau and what I missed in the show part was made up for in the food part. I finally found the kalua pig that I liked. I've been to some luaus where the pig tasted too gamey. I also liked the fact that you were served at the table instead of going through a line like a cattle call. I'm used to one of the dancers acting as an emcee but this luau has a separate one who also sings. Could have used more dancing. And yes, there is a dancer that looks like "The Rock" oh my!!!! There were activities for the kids before the luau and the girls made lei bracelets while the grand son made a leaf headband. We watched the coconut tree climbing, listened to the music and watched the hula lessons. All in all, a great time was had by the entire family.

“Watch out for sudden 21% price increase”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

Extremely disappointed and disgusted that the Hale Koa Luau no longer provides a military discount for service members stationed in Hawaii. For a business designed for the benefit of military service members, it is shocking to hear of such a business practice. While still one of the best Luaus on the island of Oahu, the management needs to rethink this decision.
