Owner description: A small, uncrowded beach located at the end of Waikiki beach near Diamond Head.

This is a small beach about a 15 minute walk from Waikiki central towards Diamond Head.
There are toilet facilities at the old baths which have been shut for safety reasons.
The beach at San Souci is patrolled by life guards.
Great for families, and also to get away from the hotel crowds in Waikiki

Located just a few blocks away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki's main beach, you will find this little piece of ocean front.
My favorite spot for swimming in Honolulu!
The confident swimmer can easily go for a nice swim out to the marked buoy.
Ocean currents will determine the degree of work out, you will have to do.
The morning hours are quiet, if you drive by car, it is easier to find parking.
The afternoon, especially sunset time, is an excellent choice for an invigorating swim and to enjoy the spectacular vistas in the softer evening light.
Swimming back to the beach you will see majestic Diamond Head to your right and looking out to the ocean the setting sun.
A wonderful way to end your day and working up an appetite for a healthy meal.

We stayed at the Hotel on the beach and we found the beach to be not overcrowded.
It is a locals hangout so at times it can be a bit rowdy. Very quiet in the mornings. Perfect snorkeling and many fish, eels at times and sea turtles in the area. It is very close to the aquarium. Great to get away from the mass of tourists! We will be going back to Oahu in a year, and Sans Souci Beach will be a destination.
Bring a nice overdress... a very romantic restaurant in the hotel outside on the beach shaded with beautiful old trees, gorgeous! Also a convenience store in the nearby New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel for snacks and supplies.

The waves were too high on the North Shore so we came to this beach for a day of snorkeling and I am glad we did. The water was nice and calm and there was a huge amount and variety of fish. The beach was very clean and enjoyable to lay in the sun on. We had a nice time people watching when our snorkeling was done. This beach is a great place for little kids (and older kids too).

My husband and I visited this little beach on our trip to Oahu. We loved it. I think we read about it in our Oahu Revealed guidebook (A. Doughty). We brought our rented snorkel gear with us. The snorkeling was pretty good - we saw lots of fish - nowhere near as many as we saw in Hanauma Bay, but it was still pretty good snorkeling. It's less crowded than Waikiki, but not secluded by any means. Lanikai Beach is still my favorite in Oahu (see my separate review), but San Souci beach has better snorkeling (Lanikai is not really good for snorkeling) and it has an absolutely gorgeous sunset. It's also closer to the Waikiki area (you'd still have to drive but much closer than Lanikai). You can watch the sunset from the beach, or if you'd like, visit the Hau Tree Lanai restaurant which is right on the beach (see my separate review - we loved this spot - great place for a nice, romantic, sunset dinner). We spent a few hours on the beach and snorkeling, then went and cleaned up at our hotel and came back for a nice dinner at the Hau Tree Lanai. All in all, a visit to San Souci beach, at least to view the sunset, is definitely a must.
