Owner description: This famous store is devoted to both authentic Hawaiian goods as well as traditional tourist souvenirs.

The tourist Mecca of all things Hawaiian has closed. This was always the go to place to pick up gifts when returning to the mainland. Something about buying gifts at the local Walmart is not the same...

(Note: Hilo Hattie's is located all around the islands, but they are no more only on Hilo. You won't find them on the Big Island, but you will still find them on other islands.)

They were very nice to us, and it was nice of them to have the free shuttle from the cruise ship, but I was not all that impressed with their products. Too much of what they offer is "Made in China." I just think it is kind of ironic to buy souvenirs to remember one's visit to a place when those souvenirs are from a completely different country.

Anyway, we took a look around, and took advantage of the opportunity to check out the shopping center, too. All of the regular stores are downstairs, and all of the "upscale" stores are upstairs. It is good to note that there is a United States Post Office right in the shopping center. So, if you buy anything, you can ship it home right away, and not have to tote it back in your luggage. It's also a good place to drop off post cards you have so that they get the HI postmark.

Hilo Hattie's has a free shuttle that will pick you up around the city and take you to Hilo Hattie's. You can get on where you want and get off where you want. only thing is that you are dropped off at the store and can leave as soon as the next shuttle arrives. We love3d shopping at the store and found lots of gifts and items to buy. This is a place you need to plan on going when you get to the island.

Everyone in Honolulu knew where the iconic Hilo Hattie's was located. It closed recently and relocated to the Ala Moana Mall. Now it's just another 'mall store' in a mall that's getting bigger and bigger by the day. Gone are the trolleys that would pick up and drop off at or near the major hotels that made visiting the store an experience. I was very saddened to see this change. Same stuff, but now just another Hawaiian merchandise store.
