We spent one night at Kahala before departing for home after five days on the Big Island. It was a really indulgent treat to stay here. Our room, 1209, was in the dolphin wing overlooking the dolphin's pool. We spent so much time on our balcony watching them swim around and play, we didn't want to leave our room. We did make it to the beach and enjoyed a late lunch and cocktail on the chaise lounges. Really a heavenly, carefree experience as the beachfront and pool areas are gorgeous without the maddening crowds experienced elsewhere. Breakfast the next morning at Plumeria is delightful, right on the beachfront. At the Kahala, quality of service and accommodations are exceptional compared to everything else on Oahu. We cannot wait to return next Thanksgiving!

Room Tip: Rooms in the Dolphin Wing are worth the price. Amazingly close proximity to these beautiful creatures!

The Kahala Hotel and Resort is great for families and romantic getaways, and is a good hotel for business travelers too.

There are several onsite restaurants, although only a couple of them serve diners in "casual" wear. This hotel has a very formal feel to it. That being said, the beachfront Plumeria restaurant onsite is a great place to enjoy a sunrise breakfast or a sunset dinner. The setting, just yards from the beach and with a view of Koko Crater, couldn't be more beautiful.

The hotel is in a upscale neighborhood, walking distance to Kahala Mall. It is advisable to have a car when staying here or plan to hire a taxi or car service because this hotel is slightly off the beaten path, though only a few miles from Waikiki. The hotel has an in-house taxi drivers as well (I really enjoyed riding around Oahu with Doug, a driver who is also a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack and who seems to love to share his knowledge about Hawaii with guests).

The rooms were nicely decorated, however the were minus some of the niceties that might be found at other resort hotels (i.e. no TV embedded in the bathroom mirror or other such things here).

The facilities of the hotel were wonderful although, again, the swimming pool wasn't nearly as fancy as some of the "free form" pools available at other resorts. However, the no frills pool is right next to the on-site dolphin and sea turtle ponds where, for a fee, you can swim with dolphins. Hard to beat.

And the beach, though small and with a very close in reef, is a good place to go for a convenient dip in the ocean or to learn how to snorkel or paddle board. Rental equipment is available right on the beach.

Overall, I don't see how you could go wrong by staying at the Kahala Hotel, as long as you can stand looking at your credit card bill afterwards.

Room Tip: Lanai rooms with golf course view also have a beautiful view of Honolulu and the mountains, and some have partial ocean view too.

The Kahala Hotel is the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. The staff are exceptional. My best friend and I stayed for 5 days and celebrated my 44th birthday. I felt very special and even received a room upgrade. I went swimming with the dolphins and paddle boarded for the first time. I can still taste the breakfast buffet. The food was very delicious and fresh. The room was beautiful and comfortable. I miss the bed.....I'm looking forward to next year when I return :)

Room Tip: The view from the ocean view rooms are sensational!

The only place that comes close is the Hale Kulani in Waikiki, equally as superlative. But Kahala is off the beaten track, and the Hale Kulani is smack in the middle of it.

Kahala possesses so many qualities that it is difficult to list them all. Old-fashioned elegance and charm. Highly professional and courteous staff. Incredible use of space in the rooms, not remotely cramped. Beautiful ocean and mountain views. Excellent restaurants. A beach/poolside bar that is wonderful. On site ponds with dolphins, turtles and tropical fish. Did I mention dolphins!? Tasteful and discreet management of celebrity guests. More Japanese weddings than one can count.

This was the back end of a 50th birthday party -- we sent the others home after a week at Ko Olina, then sunk in at Kahala to lose ourselves to its charms. Close enough to Honolulu for social needs, far enough to be quiet and private. Perfect launching spot for a round the island drive. We entertained local friends and business associates at a few of the venues on site.

There you have it. Kahala is a perfect tie with Hale Kulani, easily the most exclusives spots on Oahu. If the hustle and bustle of Waikiki is not your thing, then choose Kahala. We will be back to this special treasure.

Room Tip: Kahala is not for the thrifty traveler. Since you're there, ask for the Koko Head tower. It has better views and is quieter. If you are a big dolphin fan, get a room on the lagoon. But you cannot go wrong here.

This is not our first and will not be our last visit, we paid the little extra this time and had a dolphin launi room , room 1113 .We were captivated with the dolphins and found we sat for hours watching them.We also swam with them so amazing.
I also had a facial given by the lovely Naomi , wonderful ,relaxing and fantastic skin afterwards I purchased the creams etc ,so my skin is the best it has ever been in the english winter weather, so I feel worth ever penny.
We ate in all there restaurants ,had high tea, and room service, all wonderful, my favourite meal being the Rosemary and salted roast chicken on the room service menu.
We booked the North shore trip with the Kahala ,even in the rain it is a fantastic ,beautiful tour.
The Kahala has a lot of water sports to try and reasonable costs.
All the staff as always helpful, polite and smiling, I would just like to thank the turndown service ladies for there attention to the little things that made us feel special extra english tea bag as they noticed we didn't drink other tea or coffee.thank you.
see you soon

Room Tip: room 1113 amazing dolphin launi room, next to dolphin lagoon,so can watch the dolphins all day.
