“The magic has almost returned”

I used to visit the Kahala regularly when it was at its best, under Hilton management. I looked elsewhere when it changed operators and slid downhill. It has been spruced up. The service is now back to its best and the grounds are manicured and impressive. My only concern is the food. Both restaurants look good and the service is competent, but the food is at best unexceptional and at worst unpleasant. I had meals at all outlets and I am sorry to have to say the best meal I had was a tuna sandwich at the beach bar. Fix the food and it will be once again the jewel of Honolulu.

Room Tip: A partial beach view is the best value

The Kahala is our favorite place to stay on O'ahu. It has changed hands several times in the last 15 years, only once going through a rough period. I am happy to say it is back to it's high standards. The rooms are lovely and elegant without being uptight. The scenic view rooms are our favorite, because although they overlook the mountainside, there is a constant breeze coming down. There are a few rooms which are low and close to the hotel's entrance, which aren't the best. The kids club staff is really kind, but the activities are mediocre. That said, my daughter loved her time with them. There is a Dolphin program on the property with a (almost) affordable sting ray visit. Again, my daughter did both and had the time of her life.

Mahalo for your loyalty and for taking the time to share your Kahala experiences with the Trip Advisor community.

We were delighted to hear that your daughter had a wonderful time, but disappointed that your experience was any less than flawless. We take feedback very seriously and I have shared your comment about the Keiki program for review.

We look forward to welcoming you back to The Kahala for your next Hawaii vacation.

We decided that we would attend the Pro Bowl and wanted to stay off the beaten path of Waikiki. I did a ton of research and decided that this hotel was just the place we needed. It has it's own private beach, a lagoon where you can swim with dolphins and a golf course. The beach is absolutely beautiful as well as the hotel. On our first night there, we dined at one if the hotel restaurants where we met Kenny Albert and Daryl "moose" Johnston. That was highlight! However, the restaurant was beyond overpriced and food wasn't good. The rooms were beautiful, clean and well maintained but at $600 per night, I expected a view of the ocean not the mountains. We had a great trip and plan on returning to Oahu in a few years but will look to rent a beach condo instead.

Room Tip: Ocean view

If you're looking for a place out of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, yet close to all of it's amenities, Kahala is the place to be. While the hotel is a little tired, we found it absolutely charming. The service is very good, and the beach was inviting and almost private. We will certainly stay there again.

I was here on business and was so sorry that I didn't have more time to take in the mellow vibe and wonderful amenities that this resort has to offer. The resort is placed in a beautiful and quiet part of Honolulu on the other side of Diamond Head. My standard room was two or three times the size of any other standard hotel room I have stayed in. The bathroom was equally spacious and luxurious. I had a stunning view of the ocean and beach and my balcony overlooked the dolphin lagoon which was nice, but made me sad that the dolphins lived in such a small space. I had lunch in the casual dining restaurant and the food and service were top notch. You can easily get to the busier part of Waikiki by hotel shuttle if you want to go off property for meals or shopping. I would definitely return to this lovely location for vacation.

The Kahala Hotel wants to be a Four Seasons but it falls short on every front. The location is great but the hotel placement is all wrong. We upgraded to an ocean view room and all we got was a view of the parking garage and the front lobby. Beep, beep, beep as trucks and buses would pull in all day long. No ocean sound just the nice sound of a garage. Just a glimpse of blue off in the distance. They were sold out and couldn't move us to even a garden view until the last night. Did they reduce the price when they did move us? Nope. The staff and service is just not up to par with other premium hotel properties. We left early and won't be coming back. Be careful what you book and where they place you. Call and ask very detailed questions. It also needs some basic maintenance. Our room railing was covered in rust.

When my daughter and I decided to go to Hawaii and do the Dolphin Quest Trainer for a Day, it was only natural to book our room in the attached Hotel. When we arrived and our luggage was being unloaded from the back of the transfer bus, the outside staff greeted us with a warm welcome and a beautiful shell lei. They let us know where the front desk was to check in and not to worry about our luggage as they would make sure it was sent to our room.

Our room was very spacious and I was thrilled to see a coffee maker with coffee and tea supplies. Thank You

Our luggage was delivered shortly after we got to our room and the porter asked if we wanted luggage racks set up and if we had any questions about our room.

On a whim, we called the spa and asked if they had time and space for a massage. They did and off we go. The personal touches and consideration they should my daughter and I for our comfort was wonderful. We were truly no longer flight weary.

Off we go to the Italian restaurant on the property for dinner. My daughter is a very picky eater and after she viewed the menu, she was worried about what she could eat. The waiter came by and she asked if they would be good enough to make a ham and pineapple pizza for her. She beamed when they said "yes".

We went back to our room and opened a room service book as the Plumeria wasn't open for breakfast until 6,30 am and we had to be at the Dolphine Quest office at 7.00 am. When I spoke with room service and explained my dilema and the need to have an enjoyable meal, they said they would deliver breakfast to us at 6.00 am. They were prompt with smiling faces and a newspaper.

Off to spend the day with the Dolphins - Fabulous.

Have dinner at the Plumeria - Wow! Huge sizes and affordable.

Back to the room for the night and we were tickled at the chocolates on the bed with a card telling us about the hotel being on TV. The was a nice mat on the floor on each side of the bed with a pair of slippers set out. Wow! This continued each night of our stay. I must say, this is a very nice touch and truly appreciated.

I would like to thank everyone at the Kahala Hotel for making the start of our much needed holiday one to truly remember. I will definitely recommend your hotel to anyone going to Oahu.
