“The best rooms ever”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

I stayed at this hotel for seven nights and what a surprise. Ever room is large the only difference was if they had a balcony and a beach view. The rooms are unbelieveable. The bedroom is very large with a couch and table and desk. There is a very large bathroom with wash basins up each end double hanging space and separate toilet and large shower. The rooms are very well kept and the best beds very comfy. It was fully booked on our arrival so had to wait up to 4 hours for our room as the first one we where offered was a long way from the main building but the second was on the 7th floor without a balcony as we couldn't upgrade, would prefer balcony as felt hemmed in not being able to open a window. the buffet breakfast was great, the best pineapple I have tasted. The pool area is getting very tired and not bigger enough. Not a lot of shade and lounges and umbrellas need replacing. The beach is great
very clear and safe for swimming. The Dolphins are a great attraction to have on site. You can watch them all day and still see something different and the staff are great and will answer any questions who have. They run a free shuttle bus to the local mall, Waikiki and Al Mona through out the day and you can go in for dinner if you want to. The only downside is if you don't have a car you are isolated from eating at local restaurants. This hotel is very professionally run with very friendly staff. This is a very popular with Japanese visitors who are very polite and trouble free tourists. Great place for children.

Room Tip: Rooms with a balcony are a better choice

I was lucky enough to have my fiance whisk me away to this tropical paradise early in our relationship. It was a stunner. The room was lovely, the staff was courteous, the food was delicious and the beach was spectacular. If you are looking for a fantastic getaway I can highly recommend this one. Can't wait to return.

Had a wonderful stay here for 6 nights with my husband. Great location away from the hussle and bussle of Waikiki but close enough to venture in for some activity when desired on the free hotel shuttle. Beautiful beach, great food (although simple at times) and service. The rooms are large with fantastic bathrooms. We have stayed in many resorts around the world, this is certainly up there with the best. The only draw back is that virtually everything at the hotel is an extra cost, including if you want shade at the beach... Otherwise a luxurious and relaxing stay. Highly recommended

Stayed here for four nights before staying in Waikiki for three nights. This is a truly great resort with large well appointed rooms and generous sized bathrooms. The view from the balcony facing ocean is excellent but even the golf course facing view is great. The beach is calm and feels very private. Pool/beach service is excellent. All the staff members we met were very friendly and professional. We always looked forward to come back and relax at the pool and beach after a morning trip out.
Much more relaxed compared to touristy Waikiki.
One aspect they really need to improve are the restaurants. Even the flagship restaurant Hoku left much to be desired both in terms of food quality and sophistication. Ate twice at Plumeria and the food was ok at best. Next time I would choose to eat out in Waikiki.

Room Tip: If choosing a ocean view ask for high floor or go for ocean front. Even the golf facing rooms are ex...

Having been to Oahu many times I never understood why you would stay at Kahala but this time I thought it was worth a try. Now I get it! As Waikiki keeps getting busier and busier this resort is an oasis. I had to keep reminding myself I was still on the same island. We stayed in a dolphin lanai and that was magical we sat on the balcony a lot just enjoying the view. The rooms are tastefully decorated huge bathrooms. Staff where all friendly and welcoming. While the pool is not huge it does the job but the beach is a great substitute no waves and a perfect temperature my 4 year old loved it. I hired a cabana on the beach one day so could sit and watch her play with other kids. Food and beverage prices are reasonable so you don't feel like anything is overpriced because it is a luxury property. There is a shuttle to a local mall or $10 in a taxi or a shuttle to Waikiki or ala Moana and when you go in you just want to head back! My biggest complaint you don't want to leave. If you want an island experience on Oahu this is it

Aloha Caesar and Chloe,

Thank you for the kind comments and for taking the time to share your experiences with the Trip Advisor community. We are delighted to hear that you had an exceptional stay and received outstanding services and amenities at every level. Beyond doubt, the resort’s uncrowded beach location and 10 minutes proximity to vibrant Waikiki are two of the most favorite aspects when staying at The Kahala. The Kahala guest truly has the best of both worlds. We take all feedback very seriously and have shared your comments with Dolphin Quest partners. The resort has a great relationship with our Dolphin Quest team. We believe the Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins are in excellent human care provided by our partners.

We look forward to our next opportunity to welcome you back to The Kahala Hotel & Resort for your next Hawaii vacation.

Just back from a 50th wedding Anniversary with our family and friends. This trip was almost a year in the planning and many, many to Grace Chan the Banquet Manager who was wonderful to work with. She and her lovely waiting staff put together a delicious buffet on the lawn. Together with the sound of the waves and a rising full moon it the evening was just perfect. I had purchased a combination of Ocean Front Suites, Dolphin Lanai rooms, and Beach Front Lanais all the rooms were perfect. Water was plentiful but ice erratic. We did a number of activities, including a snorking trip. The activities staff were all helpful, ethusiastic, friendly and diligent.
We had a series of tented cabanas which everyone enjoyed. Both the adults and children enjoyed the swimming.
The staff and the meal at Hokus were both outstanding. About the Plumeria, the less said the better, although their sea food buffet and their buffet breakfast were good.
The reception staff were always very friendly and helpful. They handle a large group deftly
All in all it was a wonderful experience at a really great hotel.

Room Tip: The beach front lanai rooms offer a wonderful view and a steps away from the sea. We stayed in a th...
