“Last stop of honeymoon”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

Stayed here last week for the final 6 nights of my honeymoon and loved it. We were upgraded and given a bottle of (pink!) sparkling champagne. The room (historic oceanview) was gorgeous (as the whole hotel is) but could do with some upgrades - perhaps a smaller closet to make room for a bigger bathroom. There was nowhere in the bathroom to hang all the towels once we used them so they ended up all over the floor. The bed was very comfortable and everything was clean. My only other gripe is the lack of a kettle (using the coffee machine took a lot longer than a kettle) and the paper coffee cups rather than mugs.
Breakfast was included in our deal and there was a lot of choice and it was delicious. The pool is small but who cares when Waikiki beach is right next to you and so perfect for swimming in - and yes, the beach chairs cost money, but the ones at the pool do not. Would have appreciated some of the extra care that Four Seasons Hawaii went to for honeymooners (inviting us to free lei-making lessons etc) but it's not a deal-breaker. Some of the service could be improved, for eg. I did want to get a mani at the spa and it was on the menu, but when I asked I was told they don't have a 'nail artist'. Also don't appreciate being asked for ID when I order a drink at the pool and only have a book and a bikini, clearly no ID on me (I'm nearing 30, don't think I look younger than 21, also what -21yr old is on a honeymoon in a foreign country staying somewhere as expensive as the RH?)
So, there were many small annoyances that you wouldn't expect for a hotel this price, but it was a lovely old hotel and we had a blast - and you just can't beat the location. I've stayed in 2 other hotels in Waikiki and hated them so this was better for the location alone.

Dear awful_in_aqua86,
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort. We're honored to have been able to help you celebrate your honeymoon and we're delighted to learn that you loved your time here. Thank you for your honest feedback regarding the bathroom and coffee machine in your room. We apologize that you were not clearly informed on the many complimentary cultural activities offered on our property such as hula lessons, lei making, bracelet making and historical tours. We know it can be frustrating to be asked for an identification card when out at the pool and our intentions here are not to inconvenience our guests. Hawaii has very strict liquor laws and our ambassadors are trained by the liquor commission to ask all guests for an identification. Failure to do so may result in the loss of the liquor license for the server as well as the restaurant/bar. Again, we truly appreciate the time you took to share your review. We hope to have the wonderful opportunity to welcome you back.

We stayed at the royal in April 2013, and as soon as we arrived (quite early I may add about 8am) the service was amazing, we were greeted like old friends, we asked to leave our bags until check in (2pm) to which we were told our room was ready and waiting for us. The cold refreshing drinks on arrival were perfect. We had an amazing room overlooking the beach and even though it is so close to the strip, as soon as you walked onto the grounds it was quiet and relaxing. Our room service were amazing, couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough! I want to go back asap.

We only had 4 days so wanted to stay where you didn't have to drive all over to see sites and that would be comfortable and relaxing. The Royal Hawaiian exceeded our expectations on all accounts.

The accommodations were lovely and while not a HUGE room, it was certainly more than adequate and had an impressive HC accessible bath and they even provided a shower chair (my husband is disabled). The restaurant was ok, there is better food around, but the setting was beautiful. The main thing about this hotel, to me, is that the grounds and facilities are extremely well maintained and the service is really A+.

Room Tip: Had a garden view room which was more affordable, very quiet. A balcony would have been nice but wit...

MY beautiful bride and I enjoyed staying here for 5 nights during our honeymoon. After being in Maui for a week, we definitely realized that Waikiki was much faster paced than the slow lifestyle we had enjoyed earlier in our trip. The Royal Hawaiian was sort of a paradise within a paradise. The staff was always friendly and very helpful. The entire resort is just gorgeous. The rooms are spacious and are equipped with modern luxuries like WiFi, TV, lighted mirrors, coffee maker, fridge, nice alarm clock, etc. Turn down service was always nice to enjoy as we would return to the hotel to find our room neat and orderly before bed. We enjoyed spending time out by the pool under the relaxing umbrellas and took advantage of the delicious food provided by Mai Tai restaurant. The fitness facility was also well thought out as it had enough equipment for multiple users in a clean, cool, environment. The beach is a great addition to the resort as there is private seating for Royal Hawaiian customers. They also offer wonderful Spa services, concierge, dining, shopping, etc. All in all, this was a wonderful visit, and I definitely hope to come back one day! The ONLY downside, is that the towels were not soft :( I'm usually not picky but it did not feel good to try off with them after a relaxing shower.

Room Tip: Try to get an ocean view suite!

The pink grows on you. I would recommend the tower rooms versus the garden suites which lack a balcony or any outdoor space. The rocking chairs is a nice touch. Convenience to beach and water sport rentals make this a hassle free resort.

Understated elegance, historic property and ideal location make this one of my all time favorite hotels.

+ Service is top-notch
+ Location can't be beat - right in the middle of Waikiki, which is is now probably my favorite beach ever.
+ Overall design of the hotel is so elegant - they did a really good job of modernizing while retaining the historic layout of the property.
