“Good location, average hotel”
Reviewed 3 December 2013

The hotel is in a good position, and the laundry facilities were good, but other than that the hotel does not have a lot going for it. I would stay there again only if the price was right. The rooms are a good size and the bathroom was perfectly okay (except for a noise issue with the pipes). The front desk staff were not very friendly. Don't expect to be able to check-in before the 3pm check-in time. We were immediately told on arrival that we were too early for check-in and that no room would be made available before 3pm. This is perfectly understandable when the hotel is full, which we were told it was, but no offer was made to check on whether any room would become available earlier than 3pm. We were just told to come back at 3pm. Not a great welcome after a 10 hour flight from Sydney. Our room had an issue with a high-pitched noise coming from the bathroom ceiling, but we were told nothing could be done about it. This noise went on intermittently throughout each night of our stay. The air-conditioning units on the building next door are extremely loud and we were unable to sleep with the balcony door open because of the noise. The air-conditioning in the room was aimed directly at the beds and this resulted in waking up cold through the night. Overall the room was clean and housekeeping did a good job, but the hallway areas are looking very tired and are in need of an update. There was a problem initially with our booking and we were told no room was available for us, however the hotel did rectify the problem and managed to find a room for us.

Room Tip: We were on level 9 in a partial ocean view room and the noise from the air-conditioning units below...

If first impressions count then the Location combined with excellent service would make you return - that is until you see your room! We arrived extremely early as our flight was an early morning arrival. We were aware and understood that our room might not be ready, and as expected were advised by reception that our room was still occupied and the couple in it would not be leaving until around midday (it was 8am now). The agent was extremely sympathetic and gave us another room we could use to have a shower, change and rest for an hour or 2 which made our morning much more enjoyable. Upon returning to the hotel at 1pm, we were advised that our room was ready, and were told our room was on the 17th floor. For a 'Premium Kalakaua Ocean View Room' room, it had what I would call partial obstructed views at best, and the bathroom was in a really poor condition. All in all apart from the room, we would probably stay again if the rooms had been better. For price and quality I'd suggest that you can find better in Waikiki!

Room Tip: Higher floors have less street noise however being in the centre of Waikiki its hard to get away fro...

We arrived at hotel at midnight and had to change rooms because AC wasn't operational. Clerk at desk said it would take between 15 - 30 minutes to find us another room? Not like she was doing anything else at that hour. Also, I left my kindle on hotel room on top of safe. Called hotel next day. They asked housekeeping who said nothing was found. Three days later I t miraculously appeared. I guess whoever youfound it realiEd it was useless and decided to look good and return. Hotel brought to UPS store who informed me that it would be$30 to ship ait express. I called UPS company who said it could be shipped for $13. UPS store refused and said they would return to hotel. I think the hotel could do a lot better.

This hotel is only good as a crash pad. Which is what we used it for. If you plan to spend more than a night or two find another place.

They say first impressions make all the difference. Here's mine....Even though we arrived super early our room was ready. We were made to feel very welcome by the reception staff and were even provided with fresh lei's (an increasingly rare event I'm told).
Our double room was on the second floor and although the view facing Kalakaua Ave was unremarkable, the room was extremely spacious and well appointed. (the view was of no significance to us as we came to enjoy the beach, not look at it.) The hotels facilities and location were more than adequate to enjoy all that the Waikiki strip has to offer. The onsite restaurant, bar and magic show are run independently from the hotel and even though you cannot charge their services to your room, all interactions were seemless.
Any reservations i had about noise were dispelled after the first night and no unduly noise was experienced during our entire stay.
The pool was not overly big in size but was well used, but with the beach across the Road we didn't bother.
A word on parking...there is no self parking option for hotel guests and valet costs $30 per day. However the service we received from the valet attendants was first class.
Great shopping, dining and the famous Waikiki Beach at our door step was a perfect introduction to our first visit to Oahu......Won't consider staying anywhere else

Room Tip: The Magic of Polynesia show room is on the second floor. Noise may be an issue the closer you are to...

Aloha John K.
Thank you for the awesome review and kind words in reference to your first impression and first stay with us. I am very pleased to hear that we were able to accommodate an early check in for you upon your arrival. I also am happy to hear that you were able to take advantage of our central location and all the interactions throughout our property despite them being separately operated. It is great to know that we could seamlessly piece these elements together to create an enjoyable stay for you. We hope that you can visit the island sometime soon and we will anticipate your return with us.

We picked this for the location and to remain loyal to the chain. Good move as we had a super king sized room on a high floor. Clean and spacious with excellent access to all the key thinks in Waikiki. All staff were great, especially the cleaning lady and the front desk manager. We enjoyed the happy hours and food at Jimmy Buffett's and also the bar and food at the Cheesecake Factory across the street. Both locations merited many visits, as did the International Market. The proximity to the beach is about as good as you can get unless you pay much more to actually stay on the beach. The Hawaiian hospitality was a big plus, as was the dependable sunshine. A rare find was top quality equipment in the gym - free with the room. Ten days passed by all too quickly!

Room Tip: Higher the better delivers less outside noise. But in reality with the airco being quiet enough you...

The Holiday Inn Beachcomber is in a fantastic location! So close to everything and directly across from the Cheescake factory!

The pool was great with the convenience of a bar and restaurant.

The hotel was very well kept. A big shoutout to our Housekeeping lady Maricon!! She looked after us and always ensured our room was clean and was absolutely lovely! Thank you so much Maricon! Lots of love from your Aussie Girls Mery, Kristina, Violet and Maria

Enjoyed a 2 night stay before a cruise. Location was perfect..convenient to everything. Trolley tours 2 blocks away...beach across the street...Denny's & IHOP 1 block behind hotel. We had a room on the 21st floor which had an amazing view. Room was VERY clean, comfortable & spacious. Staff at front desk was friendly and helpful. I booked directly speaking to Jennifer - reservations/sales who was so kind. She also introduced herself while we were there. As a travel agent I recommend this hotel and will continue to book my clients here.
