“Great location”
Reviewed 14 September 2012

Really enjoyed our recent stay - great location and very helpful and friendly staff. We found the room of a decent size, well fitted out and comfortable. It was our first visit to Hawaii and found it lived up to our expectations. The street comes alive at night and the food options are great. The menu at the Cheesecake factory is enormous and well worth paying it a visit - the trick is to have an early lunch or dinner. All in all we had a great time and the weather was fabulous. Don't miss the sunset on the beach in front of the hotel. My only negative is the lack of umbrellas around the pool. Coming from Aust where we are used to hotels having a sun smart attitude I was disappointed to see that the recent upgrades did not include more shelter around the pool. As there seemed to be quite a lot of Aussies in Hawaii it may be well worth Outrigger giving this some consideration as we noticed that the other hotels along the beach strip seemed to have taken care of this. Loved Waikiki and hopefully will pay another visit soon.

Aloha steady1302. We are happy to hear that you really enjoyed your recent stay with us. Thank you for your compliments about our helpful and friendly staff as well as our comfortable accommodations. We are lucky to have so many different dining options at our doorstep. Not only is Hawaii a melting pot for International cuisine, it is also where some of the most famous restaurant chains, such as the Cheesecake Factory and Hard Rock Cafe, can be found. Hopefully it will not be long before your next visit. Our beautiful Hawaiian sunsets and warm, gentle climate are awaiting you. Mahalo.

We stayed here in August for 5 nights. When we checked in the girl in reception was delighted to tell us we had one of the newly refurbished rooms. To be honest I would sack the designer!!! The room was very clean but had been decorated in a beige/cream/dull green colour which rather than give a nice fresh feel made the room look dirgy and dingy and ironically in need of redecoration. The furnishings are in a heavy dark wood which looks dated and there are sepia prints on the wall which again give a very old fashioned feel. The beds are basic double size so small by American standards.
The room itself was an average size but had a bit too much furniture in. We luckily had a sofa bed so my teenage daughters did not have to share which they were happy about. We had a small balcony with a partial view of the ocean but only big enough for 2 chairs. The bathroom was small but separated into 2 sections - the first with sink and walk in wardrobe and a separate section for the toilet and shower and a 1/2 size bath tub which was odd!
It was pretty noisy - you could hear doors banging, vans reversing bleepers and trolley bells which started in the early hours. Despite other reviews we didn't have any problems with the lifts.
To get to the pool and beach they sign post you to go through the restaurant which is bizarre.
The pool is small but right on the beach. There are lots of loungers but they are pushed right up next to each other making it difficult to get on and off. There are no umbrellas or sun shades - if you want shade you have to move from lounger to lounger depending on where the shade is and between 12 and 3 there is no shade at all. The place is pretty packed most of the day and it is very noisy and not very relaxing. At around 4pm they close the lower deck area and get it ready for evening entertainment which starts about 5 - noisy.
The hotel has a great setting right on the beach and opposite the International Market and in the heart of lots of shops.
All in all it was an okay hotel but would probably try somewhere else next time

Aloha jpb52. Thank you for choosing the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach for your family vacation. Many of our rooms have a comfortable sofabed in addition to the existing bedding, which is perfect for families with 2 children. We are sorry to hear that you were not delighted by the design of our newly renovated guest rooms. The décor of our rooms is an example of our commitment to incorporate local culture throughout our property: richly hued heavy wood furniture adds accents to light-color papyrus-textured walls, historical photos and Hawaiian artifacts draw the eye to a distinct island theme. We hope you will stay with us again on your next visit to Hawaii. Mahalo.

When booking this hotel back in Australia I was told by my travel agent that there would definitely be sun shelters around the pool. Well there is there is actually 4 sunbeds out of all of them that thanks to a couple of palm trees actually stay in the shade all day!. When you have paid $400 a night for a room, i don't except to then have to pay an extra $50 a day to get a sun shelter, which is available for hire on the beach. Obviously guests getting sunburnt is not of any concern to the hotel.. I will definitely not be staying here again.

My husband surprised me with a stay at the outrigger. We had a deluxe oceanfront with jacuzzi on the 12 th floor. The rooms are average in size but have been newly renovated with upscale features. The view was spectacular....we could view the azure v
Blue water, watch the outriggers, surfers and even see the sea turtles in the water. We had breakfasts at Dukes and the Hula grille, both very nice. Get reservations to Dukes as it is a happening place. the staff, especially the valets were so very helpful. If you want a hotel with a big pool area, choice the Hilton Hawaiian as this one is rather small for the size of the hotel.

Room Tip: Splurge and get an Oceanfront room

Aloha ocncapt. We are very delighted to hear about your husband's romantic surprise gift to you. He made an excellent choice in reserving the Deluxe Oceanfront Room as it is perfectly designed for couples with an in-room jacuzzi tub, a king-sized bed and a lanai with the best possible view of Waikiki Beach. Seeing the Hawaiian Honu, or sea turtles, from your lanai is a rare and added bonus. The Hawaiian Honu represents longevity, safety and Mana (spiritual energy). Native Hawaiians consider her the bearer of good luck and peace. We wish you and your husband many more romantic vacations to come, and we hope to welcome you back to the beautiful shores of Waikiki. Mahalo.

The staff was so friendly! They were all very helpful. The location is awesome- close to restaurants, shopping, and the beach! There is surfing, stand up paddle boarding, catamarans, tubes, floats, umbrellas and chairs on the beach. It kind of stinks that you have to pay for chairs and umbrellas even though you're staying at the hotel. The restaurant in the hotel was good, I had lunch there and it was delicious. There was live music in the afternoon and everyone was up dancing and having a great time.

Room Tip: Ask for an unobstructed view

Aloha ktitone. We hope you had a memorable Hawaiian vacation with your friends in Waikiki. Our beachfront location allows our guests to explore the myriad of ocean activities suited for everyone from novices to avid aquatic sportsmen. The friendly staff at U.V. Rays Hawaii in front of our hotel have all the equipment needed to help guests enjoy a full day at the beach. They offer surfing lessons, canoe rides, equipment rental and also chair and umbrella rentals. Since U.V. Rays Hawaii is a privately-owned business, complimentary umbrella and chairs are not provided. However, they do allow Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach guests to charge rentals and services to the their room account for added convenience. Thank you for your positive comments about our property and staff. We hope you will return for another visit. Mahalo.

We stayed here early September- good weather with the occasional short light shower. The hotel is in a fantastic location, right in the heart of all the action as well as being right on he beach. It's recently renovated- the pool is a bit smaller, but that as allowed for a couple of extra rows of chairs. Unfortunately there are no umbrellas- perhaps the lower area outside Dukes could have some, as there is no other shaded areas unless you choose to pay $50-60 a day for a chair and brolly on the beach. We had a partial oceanview which was very satisfactory. The rooms are clean and quiet- we didn't hear anything from next door, so the sound proofing must be working. I'm not sure if the rooms are newly decorated - but if so then they have decorated them in 1970's era, maybe to keep an Hawaiian feel to them, but I think they could have done better- perhaps less heavy wood and more light colors. We had no problems with the elevators despite the fact that the sign said one was out of use due to an upgrade. The staff were all friendly and helpful- each and every one of them were good. We ate at all three restaurants and all were good- I liked Chucks salad bar the best. On Saturday night we saw the Society of Seven show. Certainly very enjoyable- ive seen a lot better - its not top quality like las Vegas, but still lots of fun and very entertaining. I'd definitely stay at this hotel again - in fact I'm sorry to leave.

Aloha series49. Nothing makes us happier to hear than, "I'd definitely stay at this hotel again - in fact, I'm sorry to leave". Thank you very much for your positive comments about all of our employees and the cleanliness of our rooms. It is wonderful to receive feedback about the success of our newly sound-proofed walls. One of the main priorites of our renovation project this year was to remedy the in-room noise problem for our guests so that they may enjoy a relaxing vacation at our hotel. Another priority was to increase the available seats on our pooldeck and we are proud of our newly renovated saltwater swimming pool with a reduced depth for safety. We value the feedback we receive from guests such as yourself, and we are in the process of reviewing different options to offer shade from the sun on the pooldeck. We are sorry you had to leave but we are looking forward to welcoming you back. Mahalo.
