“Return visit did not disappoint! So pleased we stayed here again.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

We first stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki on the beach last year and loved it so much we returned again this year. Pleased we did as you can not beat the location and value the Outrigger offers. No silly daily resort fee to pay too is a bonus. You still get free wifi anyway. Beach location is perfect for us as it really feels as if you're in the action/centre of Waikiki and the live music coming from dukes when you're lying on the beach/lazing by the pool or paddling out in the sea makes it even more special. Rooms are clean and fine. Granted they're not luxurious but are practical with a separate luggage/robe room coming off the bathroom and the toilet and shower can be closed off allowing privacy and someone else can brush their teeth/use the basin. Very handy for families!

Aloha fussytraveller2. Thank you for returning to the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. We are so glad you found our location and value to be unbeatable. We stayed here with friends for 6 nights. really great location. rooms are classic, nice. beds comfortable. Clean., we had a partial ocean view room , was good, could see enough of the sea to get some good photos. Next time I will book a full ocean front suite, was booked out this time. would stay again. Great beach location and shopping all around.

Room Tip: partial or full ocean view are better, Others are small rooms.

We chose this hotel as the reviews rated it better than others and are glad we did. We had the city room (despite them trying to suggest upgrading for $100 to a partial ocean view or $200 for full ocean view per night) and we're glad we didn't bother the view want all that but you could see the beach on the balcony, the room was large, comfortable and modern (10th floor). The beach is on the doorstep although you'll be lucky to get a lounger. The sea is lovely and warm and relatively calm and shallow for a good 20 metres out.
We didn't particularly like Waikiki it's self as it is an expensive Vegas/ uniform strip, noisy and busy and eating out is a nightmare. Be sure to book the day before, at least, if you don't want to wait an 1 1/2 for a table. Nice place for a 3/4 night stay but wouldn't want longer.

Aloha Viva81. Thank you for choosing the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. We are glad you enjoyed the view from your City-view room. Many of our guest rooms are designed to be spacious enough to comfortably accommodate families of four and our furnishings were recently upgraded during our last renovation. Waikiki is in fact a very well-visited urban area filled with vacationers exploring the large variety of restaurants, shops and beach throughout the day. Your recommendation to make dining reservations in advance is an excellent one. Mahalo Nui Loa.

Great place to stay....! Sure it is busy because you are in the epicenter of everything...! The hotel staff are great. The Valet parking guys were the best. They get your car quickly and then help you out through the croweded sidewalk and into the street. The maids are very polite, friendly, and efficient at their jobs. Great view from the Deluxe Ocean View from the 11th floor....! Saw the Catamarans coming and going from the beach and a Sea Turtle in the surf every now and again. A nice little market within the hotel for sunscreen, beer, crackers, or the Wall Street Journal. The Hula Grill was convenient. Dukes food was ok, very loud, and the bar was super busy, only went there once for this reason. Had a dinner at Chucks Steak House within the hotel also. Chucks was very good and they have a quieter, low key bar. Probably ate at the Hula Grill the most as it was more our style. The elevators are not that big of a deal, just swipe your card and put your room number in, as easy as that. It is actually cool as it enhances security in my opinion. Lots of shopping in the area and great restaurants within 7-8 blocks of this hotel and beyond. It's all there for you....! Was not too happy with the smokers in the designated smoking areas on both sides of the hotel alley ways to the beach.... On one side the smoking area is 12 feet from the outdoor self service laundry area. This should be changed as I consider my clothes dirty when I am around smokers and in need of a wash. But that is hard to avoid in Waiikiki as there seems to be more smokers than I am used too... Make sure you drive around the island, check out the North Shore for sure and take a jump off the jumping rock in Waimaea Bay. If you like to hike check out Manoa Falls Trail, very cool...! It is just back in the mountains behind Waiikiki and not too hard to find. Pearly Harbor is crowded, much preferred the Punch Bowl as a way to pay respect to those Americans lost in WW2 in the Pacific (even found the name of a relative lost in WW2 on the "Walls of the Missing"). Had a great time staying at this hotel. If you want shopping, action, restaurants, people, things to do, bars, good food, funky shops, hi-end shops, and to be in the center of all the action this is for you. If you want quiet and relaxed, get in the car and drive to the North or West shores....! Would not hesitate to stay here again....!

Room Tip: If you get a Deluxe Ocean View Room try for a higher floor

We loved it here.... It's situated right next to the beautiful beach. Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent atmosphere, fantastic restaurants. Would love to visit again, but a bit to far away for us sadly.

We are a couple in our mid 30's and just finished a 6 night stay at this hotel. It's a good location and right in the middle of all the action. Extremely busy hotel at all hours.

Room was basic, thought it was clean though. Was a bit odd to have no ceiling lights at all except the one at the front door. Was also a bit odd that bottle openers are not a standard item in the room but room service did deliver one promptly.

The 'Partial Ocean View' was not really worth the money to be honest. We were on level 14 which was good. I would avoid lower floors as the noise from the restaurants (at the front) or the construction across the road (on the other side oft the hotel) would be quite noisy.

***My biggest issue was their concierge / activities desks. There are 2 of these desks - a bigger one on the lower ground floor and one in the lobby across from check-in. DO NOT GO TO THE DESK ON THE RIGHT AT EITHER OF THESE LOCATIONS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! The people that work at those desks are actually sales reps from Wyndam Timeshare, you will notice that they wear a different but similar colour Hawaiian shirt.

When you attempt to book an activity, they try and sell you a 'come to a free Buffett breakfast and tour of our other hotels, and we will give you a $150 activities voucher'. Remember ,if it seems too good to be true it probably is. Doug specifically told us that it wasn't a sales push at all, but merely a relaxed look at their other 2 hotels in Waikiki for future visits. What he failed to mention and we found out after talking with many other tourists, is that it is the biggest half day sales push for timeshare (at the Wyndam) that you will ever go through in your life. Everyone we spoke to said they would rather pay the extra $150 for their activities than go through that experience again. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

It is disappointing that a company such as Outrigger prey on innocent travellers who would no doubt get sucked into this sales scam, when they are already paying customers at one of their hotels. This deliberate deception left a bit of a sour taste on our experience at this hotel.

I am not sure we would stay here again as it wasn't really great value for money compared to other hotels we looked at in this area.

Room Tip: Go for higher floors.

Aloha Renno1980. Thank you for staying 6 nights at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. We appreciate your feedback about the Wyndham Vacations Club desks in our lobbies. While the hotel does have business connections with Wyndham, it is not our intention for our guests to feel deceived at any of their desks. Our Front Desk, Bell Desk and Concierge employees are more than happy to address guest inquiries without ever asking them to attend a timeshare presentation. Mahalo Nui Loa.
