“Always a Good Stay”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

We stay at the Hale Koa whenever we are on Oahu. My husband is military and we find that it is the best choice for us so we can get away from the craziness that happens in Waikiki. If you are military, this should be at the top of your list. Great restaurants and the Barefoot Bar offers many different kinds of alcoholic and non alcoholic choices. I'd skip the shaved ice at the snack bar--it's really only a snow cone. Beaches and pools are outstanding. Always great to be surrounded by those who serve and have served.

Room Tip: Stay in the newly remodeled wing--the bathrooms are much better.

No response from front desk when I fell in a wet hallway due to hotel equipment issues & the lack of concern by the Guest Services Manager gives a different meaning to their "Serving Those Who Serve"!

For military or civilians, the Hale Koa is tough to beat; that is, if it can be beat at all. Conveniently located in Waikiki, it has some of the best views on island. Rates are reasonable. It is wise to book early - the earlier, the better - especially during high season (summer months). You will not regret it.

Room Tip: Book early, especially if one wants the ocean view.

If your military and want to do some activites. Go to the ITR at the NEX instead of calling the activites desk. It's cheaper and much easier. The activites staff seems to either be over worked or has an environment of not caring. Person I spoke to was disconnected from reality and more focused on chatting and laughing with co - workers for some reason. Maybe it was a bad day. Front desk seem oblivious to the problem and did not seem to either care about the concern or refer it to someone else.

Hotel itself is very nice. Great location. Really easy to get around. Has direct beach access, very nice pools for kids, decent resturants, and luau. Would chose this over nearby hotels if given the choice in the future.

If you have a Military connection, the Hale Koa Military Resort is definitely the place to stay in Waikiki. It is situated on 72 lush acres, right on Waikiki Beach. The grounds are immaculate, as is the hotel itself.

The lobby and reception area are open-air and really give the true feeling of being in Hawaii. There are many restaurants and bars to choose from and most have outdoor seating. We never had a bad meal or bad service. The luau was well worth attending, too. Great food and entertainment!

Our room was very nice and exceptionally clean. We opted for a room "without a view" and that worked well as we spent very little time there. Way too much to do and see to linger in your room!!

There are many nice shops on the premises and a couple of times a week vendors set up shop in the lobby and sell beautiful Hawaiian made jewelry and other items. A tip: if you pay cash instead of using your credit card the vendors give a much better deal. There is also a BX on site.

There were lots of young families enjoying the wonderful amenities, as well as retired folks like us.

This hotel is like an island of beauty on an island of beauty. The grounds are large, well decorated, shady walking areas on the way to the beach. Two beachside snack bars are always busy, the luau at the hotel was excellent. No problems checking in our out, the food was great in the hotel, both swimming pools spotless.

The rental car office in the hotel is only open till 1 pm and this caused me some schedule problems. I suggest you reserve rental cars at the airport before you get there.

Room Tip: We found the partial ocean view rooms a great value, we could still sit outside and see the ocean, b...

A great place to stay on Waikiki Beach. Excellent room service staff and the café was great as well. The only negative was check-in. Several people waiting in line and all positions to help weren't manned but past this everyone was very helpful in all areas of our stay at the hotel, bars, café, and room service.
