Owner description: Many of Hawaii’s alii (royalty) lived in Waikiki and King Kalakaua selected a 300-acre track of land at the base of Diamond Head for a public park in 1867. Today, it is a gathering place that thrives with walkers, runners, tennis enthusiasts and picnickers. Grab lunch on Kalakaua Avenue and enjoy it in one of the shaded picnic areas scattered around this colorful park.

“Lovely park, lots of birds”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

If you are a birder, this is a great place to see red-earred waxbills, java sparrows, yellow-fronted canarys, white terns, and red-vented bulbuls. It is also a lovely place just to walk around. It surrounds the zoo. There is a lovely garden behind the zoo area.

“Great for every single type of occasion”
Reviewed 10 November 2013

You can enjoy this park year round. There's always a concert, a festival, a market, and tons of families and friends enjoying the back yard of our long gone monarch, Queen Kapiolani. Adjacent to it is iconic waikiki beach and Diamond Head crater. I've spent many a time at this park running, laughing, singing, enjoying a festival, and just laying down and relaxing...

“Nice for morning walk or run”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

I'm a walker and usually start my day off with an early morning walk through beautiful Kapiolani Park...walk oceanside towards Diamond Head, past the Waikiki Aquarium and the Natatorium to Sans Souci Beach - curve around and come back past the gardesn, bandshell and Waikiki Zoo. Next morning - do the opposite.

“Beautiful Park”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

Great place to sit, relax, and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii. The park always seems to have lots of local families there enjoying the day and the beach. Yes there are lots of homeless people as well but they were everywhere on the island so really no different seeing them in the park.
