Owner description: The resting place for more than 25,000 victims of three American Wars - World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War – this is truly the “Cemetery of Heroes.” Punchbowl was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II.

“We were not able to get off of the bus”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2012

I believe this is the Punchbowl. The cemetery looks like any other cemetery. It has a special meaning since many of the dead from Pearl Harbor are buried there. Unfortunately visitors have carved their names in the trees which has defaced the property. Because of this the tour buses are not allowed to let their passengers disembark.

“Peaceful, Beautiful place of remembrance.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2012

Such a unique beautiful place to be laid to rest. Wonderfully manicured grounds, gorgeous trees line the center with rows of remembered men and women who served our country. Don't miss the wonderful little chapel, it is very quaint. It's a little hike up stairs. That was our very first stop after a long flight in. Will have to return some day to take more time at such a neat memorial. Easy to find and easy access. Parking was ample and there were only a couple of people there. No crowds and a great quiet place to have a picnic, if allowed.
