Owner description: Iolani Palace, the official residence of Hawaii’s monarchy, is a marvel of opulence, innovation and political intrigue. Meticulously restored to its former grandeur, this National Historic Landmark in downtown Honolulu tells of a time when their Majesties, King Kalakaua, who built the palace in 1882, and his sister and successor, Queen Liliuokalani, walked its celebrated halls. Today, you can enjoy one of the most spectacular living restorations in all of Polynesia and immerse yourself in Hawaii’s royal heritage. E komo mai! Welcome!

The volunteers are rounding up as much original furnishings as possible. New carpets being made to match as lose as possible. The tour guides are excellent. Great history told.

The palace was a one of a kind experience. I would love to go back. The guides take you from room to room as if the events were happening as you were there. Wonderful and the only palace in the United States.

Beautiful Palace combined with a sad History. This Palace is right across the King Kamehameha Statue and close to Chinatown.

We reserved tickets and got there early. This tour is run so well with wonderful workers and great information everywhere you turn. There was a great video you watch before the tour that really gave you some insight to what you were going to see and the history of the Palace. The Palace itself is beautifully restored and the docents are so knowledgeable. Great for visitors of all ages. The tour does not last too long and it ends with you taking your time in the basement museum filled w/ amazing artifacts.

It was a great visit to break up all the beach-going. The audio tour was informative and paced well. The building and artifacts were beautiful and the story is heart-breaking. All Americans should learn about this chapter in our history and appreciate how corporate colonization changed the world.
