Waikiki Banyan

We came here with a grandson. We picked it because of "family friendly" pool and BBQ area. My grandson made friends at the pool and was very happy until the management closed the pool. A storm that was coming never materialized. Instead of reopening they left it closed for FOUR days of good weather. The whole reason we came here! My complaints were ignored. Total disregard of guests. Never come here.

We stayed one night here while in town. I was blown away by the lobby and the koi pond. Very neat setting. However, once off the elevator onto the 33rd floor I felt like i stepped into 1982. The floor seemed like was slanted and the odor of burnt toast or something was present. The room was clean and was nice and open, but dated as well. I will say the view from the 33rd floor was breathtaking, especially at night overlooking the golf course. It served the purpose but definitely not a high end hotel, maybe in its' early years.

If you're going to stay here, you might do better by dealing directly with an owner via a website like VRBO. This is what we did and we knew exactly which unit we were getting and what condition it was in (it had been newly renovated and was in nice shape, BTW) I understand some of the units are very outdated. The units here are somewhat small, but adequate, though ours could have used a dresser for our clothes. Coin operated laundry on each floor, which is nice, BUT each floor has only one washer and dryer and they are very small, old style units, so keep that in mind. Also, if you deal directly with an owner instead of Aston, and you need to use the lobby restroom (like, say, when you are headed out to the beach?), the counter folks will balk at letting you have the key....Seems that only people who reserve through Aston are given lobby restroom privileges. Ridiculous. All in all, I probably would not stay here again. My family of 4 needs a bit more room, but if you have small children or are only a couple, it's plenty of space and an easy 5-7 minute walk from the beach.

Luckily we only stayed for one night, but the impression that the "Hotel" left was bad enough to write a reference.
The lady at the check-in was unfriendly and every word seemed to be to much for her. Her instructions were harsh and direct.
The room itself was very old. Windows could not be opened. The couch was very old and haevily used. No place where one would want to stay for more than one night. The stairs and corridors were smelly and dirty. A noisy club is directly in front of the building in the same coutyard. Drunk people and noises all night.
Additionally they blocked a deposit on the credit card to be sure no one would demage thos old chabby rooms.

Stay away from this place if you have any other choice....

We decided to vacation in Hawaii for 9 days. We booked through Priceline, we had no idea what we were getting. It was a 1 room condo. It had a full kitchen which worked for us because we are a family of 5. The room itself does need some updating but for the price and for what we needed it for, it was perfect! The pool is nice. I didn't like that we had to pay $10 a day to park, but it wasn't a deal breaker for us. I would stay here again. It is a 5 minute (or less) walk to a beach, that is PERFECT for young children. It is also a short walk to the strip. It is quiet, which is nice. I would recommend this for families with children. We actually stayed there in May 2013, but it is not available.

Be careful of the pictures posted on trip advisor. You will probably not get a unit that you are looking at

Check in
Don't expect a bell boy (or any help for that manner) you are completely on you're own. Take you're own bags to the reception.

Reception
Very slow check in. We were there at least 20 minutes in queue. On check in we were informed on top of the advertised rate was an amenities charge of $18 per night. This covers wi go, coffee, daily newspaper, in room safe, local calls and DVD rental. What a joke

The room
Might skip to the elevators as we had to get there. It appears that not all the elevators are in use. Not sure if this is power saving or they are reserved for staff. Anyway, elevators take a long time.

The room
Walking down the hallway of very outdated floral carpet and a lime green wall paint, I was hoping the room was going to surprise me. Our first try at entry our keys did not work. We went back down to reception to get a change of keys. On entry (finally) it did surprise me, it was worse. I don't think this place was updated since 1960. On trying to open the blinds, the cord snapped. We rang maintenance who attended and advised we could have them in a open or closed position only. We rang reception for a change of room
We were given a new room and also time warped to the 1970's with our new room.
The furniture is old and uncomfortable, the decor old, the inside of the cupboards smell like mouse urine and the bathroom is a child only size. The hair dryer did not work and the cupboards fell off when first used.

Facilities
There is a pool and 2 spas here. They had only just been refurbished on the day we got there so they appeared to be clean.
There are BBQ on the same floor for use but they need 8 x quarters to use then ( I thought this would have been in the facilities charge)

Overall we did not enjoy this hotel. I guess it is our own fault for trying to book a budget priced hotel, I just didn't expect it to be this bad.

Do you're research on this place. Ring and find out when you're room was last updated

This condo was fantastic ,with separate lounge ,large kitchen . We were very pleased with it and was very good value.the only problem the hot tub was closed for our entire stay which was disappointing I found this condo on trip advisor and read the reviews before deciding .You do get a lot of street noise but I think you would get that anywhere you stayed in hawaii
