The reviews don't lie. This is a true butt kicker of a workout. But the payoff is so gratifying. The trail is crowded, but I did not find it unbearable. This is no place for small children or anybody with health concerns. You have to ascend so many stairs along a very steep grade, and shimmy into tight spaces. Water, snacks and solid footwear are a must. You'll feel like you want to give up, but push on. It's a spectacular, unique view you can only receive through hard work.

We walked up Koko head early in the morning, so that we could watch the sunrise from the top - and YES, it's tough walking all the way up, but YES it was worth it! If you get the chance to do it while in Hawaii, then put it on your to-do list. =) Even though I could barely walk the next day (not very fit..) I did not regret it for one second! My boyfriend is a little more fit than I am, so he wasn't as sore as I was. :)

We took the Bus 32 to the trail, walk for like 2 hours, and viewed the Waikiki ocean and developments 360 degrees. Not bad for $1 entrance exploration.

Well worth the effort to get to the top. If you are at least somewhat fit, you can make the climb. I've done the climb a few times on both weekends and weekdays and it was never overly crowded.

Tough hike up these once used railroad tracks. Its a local favorite and best done early early morning to beat the heat. The 360 view at the top is so worth it though! There's places to sit down too to take in the view and have a rest too before trekking down!
