This hike is not for everyone.I'm 60 in great shape and had no problem. But I would say some people would have a tough time with this hike. The views are amazing when you get to the top.

Very nice trail that starts in a neighborhood community. The hike up took longer than I thought it would take, and there were several spots closer to the end of the trail where it was difficult to hike, but the view at the top is incredible! wear some good hiking shoes, b/c there were some parts that were slippery due to the fallen pine leaves.

This is a terrific hike. It takes us 55 minutes up and 40 minutes down. We are in our mid-70's.

You can hear the wind in the pine trees, see the nurseries in the Kamiloiki valley along the trail as well as Koko Head, part of Hanauma Bay and the marina of Hawaii Kai. At the summit you have the windward panoramic view - from Chinaman's Hat to Rabbit Island, from Waimanalo to the Olomana twin peaks.

On weekends, the place gets busy with families, old, young and plenty of dogs.

This is not a hike for the faint-hearted, but is well worth the energy and effort that it requires especially when you get the view from east Honolulu all the way to Molokai on really clear days. Bring very sturdy hiking shoes, and not your tennies or flip flops. Also bring a cell phone, water in an unbreakable container, camera, and lots of sunscreen and hat. Also, it is still relatively pristine, so take your trash out with you, and don't leave your 7-11 and McDonald's trash all over the place.

Drive to the top of this housing development (Mariners Ridge) Park and you will start by climbing up a rocky trail. Continue and you will be rewarded with some of the best views of both sides of the Island. You will walk throught Iron wood trees and climb up rocks for knock out views! This is a great hike that I would call intermediate. Bring water and wear good sneakers or hiking boots. At a good pace it probably takes about an hour each way and even on a windy day most of the way you won't get blasted by the wind. Start early in the morning and on a weekday if possible. Weekends in the late morning gets busy. Enjoy!
