“Third times the charm”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

Have just gotten back from my third time staying at the Ohana Waikiki Malia.
I just love this hotel. You cannot beat the price, location and just general greatness.

The hotel is clean, staff friendly and helpful.

I was a bit concerned as they have added a sports bar and I thought it might be loud or attract a different clientale, but didnt really notice much of a change. 1 night it was a bit loud, but I think that wasnt from the sports bar, just general yahoos on Kuhio.

Tip- make sure you ask for a room on a higher floor as Kuhio can be a bit rowdy and a room in the Malia tower as they have been renovated and are just lovely

Aloha! Mahalo for posting an outstanding review! We appreciated the time you have taken to comment on our price, location, cleaniness and friendly staff.

Our sports bar has been a great addition to our property. Rivals Sports Bar and UltraLounge was developed by owner Mike "ZO" Kawazoe as an alternative to the standard Waikiki bar. Mike’s vision was to bring some class to Waikiki. By day, The Vegas inspired lounge provides Hawaii’s most unique setting for watching any sporting event. When the sun goes down, Rivals transforms into Waikiki’s premier UltraLounge, serving up handcrafted signature cocktails, domestic and craft beers as well as the state’s most extensive whiskey collection. Always classy and never antiquated, Rivals offers up an atmosphere which lends itself to enjoying time with friends and socializing.

Our renovated rooms are indeed lovely. Inspired by the hues of Hawaii's foliage and florals, all guest rooms in the Malia Tower have been remodeled to evoke the graciousness of Hawaii's past, while incorporating the modern amenities of today. A pattern of tropical leaves cover the plush new Serta beds and rich cherry-toned woods bring warmth to the custom headboards, dressers, and vanity. The custom wood pieces are complemented by granite countertops and textured draperies that add to the welcoming feeling of the rooms.

A seamless flow of indoor-outdoor ambiance continues with a dramatic wall-covering, bamboo-framed vanity mirror and lively shower curtain, adding tropical zest to the overall look of the bathrooms. The spacious accommodations include new 32-inch LCD televisions, complimentary high-speed Internet access, refrigerator, safe and state-of-the-art energy-efficient air conditioning system.

Again, thank you for your review. We look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel.

We chose this hotel because it offered a good bedding option for our family. Our 2 teenage girls don't like to share a bed and the Malia offers one bedroom suites with a living room that has day beds which convert into 2 single beds. The kitchenette was a bonus. This worked really well for our needs, and we thoroughly enjoyed our 10 day stay.

We found the hotel staff to be really helpful, and all the facilities were good. The location is great with lots of dining and shopping choices nearby. Make sure you try Slice of Waikiki at the hotel. You can get a huge slice of pizza and a drink for a good price, and it is really tasty.

Do beware of the parkade though. It is really tight for an average size car, and the exit ramps are particularly scary.

Thank you for your review! We are delighted that we met your family needs. Our one bedroom units consist of either two punees (day beds) in the living room and a queen bed in the bedroom or two twins in the bedroom. We also have units that have a queen sofa bed in the living room and a queen bed in the bedroom. The bedding arrangements work very well for families, or girlfriends traveling together. And yes, out kitchennette are quite the bonus. We are in the process of upgrading our Luana Wing which we hope to complete by the end of November.

We are very appreciative of our employees and how they show the Aloha spirit to all our guests.

Thank you for the comment regarding our new pizza store, A Slice of Waikiki. They do make awesome pizza pies that are truly tasty.

Yes, our parking lot can be challenging with the ramps. We recommend that our guests drive slowly as they exit our lot.

Thank you again for posting your review.

After staying a few nights at the Ohana Waikiki West, we moved over to the Ohana Waikiki Malia. This is another great hotel to stay at if you are on a budget! My wife and I stayed here for three days while in town and found it to be all that we needed. The room and hotel in general were very clean and quiet. Staff was very friendly and helpful! Our room had a mini fridge and a small lanai! We were on the 16th floor and the view was nice (just be careful not to go out on the lanai without either leaving the door open or someone else being in the room; the door may lock itself and you would be stuck!) Some of the pluses include free access to the pink trolley, updated decor, in room internet (hint: bring your wireless router to have an instant wireless connection in your room) and the service. I would definitely recommend to the budget conscious! And keep in mind, you are probably not in Hawaii to be in your hotel/room, get out there and enjoy paradise!

Aloha and Mahalo for submitting your review on Tripadvisor. We are pleased to read your comments regarding our hotel being clean and quiet. We have an awesome staff that is always ready to assist. We recently renovated our Malia Tower and lobby and this year we put in a heated lounge pool and whirlpool spa. We are a much-desired property at a great value.
Thank you again for your helpful hints and positive comments.

i stayed at the Ohana Waikiki Malia last week for 3 nights and was more than satisfied. it is one of the Outrigger group's boutique hotels and offers no-frills accommodation. it is not the Four Seasons or the Sheraton, so don't complain about full-service. they have no room-service for the fact that they don't have an in-house restaurant, however, the surrounding areas are full of restaurants of every kind. the location of the hotel is in the center of almost everything in Waikiki Beach. the beach is a 10-minute walk and the shopping areas are just about a few blocks away. if you're gay, there are about 3-4 gay bars within a block or two. the staff are courteous and warm.

the bedrooms are well appointed, clean and depending how high is your floor - considerably quiet. do not expect total quietness because the hotel is located in a busy traffic area. if you want quiet, go to the Turtle Beach area. even the nearby Sheraton or Hyatt is quite noisy. the balconies in the Malia Tower are quite smaller in scale but it will accommodate a couple of chairs if you want to breathe some fresh air. the taller tower was just recently remodeled and the beds are still firm. don't complain about mustiness because you are in a tropical island where the humidity can get high at any given hour/day. the bedrooms are always tidied up on a regular basis and the bathroom amenities are always replaced.

restaurants are within walking distance in every category. the International Market Place is just a couple of blocks down if you want free hula entertainment, fast food and souvenir shopping. high-end shopping is in every corner, including the Royal Hawaiian Center. the Ala Moana shopping centre is just a pink trolley away (free). if you're quite adventurous and have good knee strength, Waikiki Beach is walkable and is more fun. if you need to rent a car, just one day will be good to tour the whole island.

overall, this hotel is great for its price and value. i will stay there again on my next visit. i will also recommend it to my friends/family.

Room Tip: the "standard" rooms are located at the newly remodeled Malia Tower.

Aloha !
Thank you for submitting your review on Tripadvisor. We are thrilled to read that you were "more than satisfied." We especially appreciated the comment regarding our staff as it is our goal to make all of our guests feel like family members. We recently renovated our Malia Tower and lobby which does give it a "boutique hotel" ambiance. We also have the popular family-friendly IHOP restaurant which is located in our lobby.
Mahalo for recommending us for our price and value to your friends and family!

We are going to stay at the hotel for 10 days and it had been wonderful until we got woke up tonight by the parking garage guy who asked us to go downstair to pay our $20 parking immediately at 10:30 pm at night. He said that he will charge us $30 more if we don't go down there to pay right away. We were told that it can be charged to our hotel room when we first checked in ( and they have our credit card too).

We called the manager and complaint - he just said that we will take care of it tomorrow.

The parking at this hotel is rid off for $20 per night when the public parking is $8 per night down the street. We only parked at the hotel first night. Having some parking guy called you to wake you up at 10:30 pm for $20 is a joke when we already pre-pay our 10 days hotel in advance.
They can't even figure out how long your car in there. In some way, I am glad that we take care of it right way. Otherwise, we will not know how
bad their parking management is -- they can't get the fee straight. I don't want to go home and get a $200 dollar bills for parking -- the parking that we never park.

When I told the guy that he just woke me up, he was not even sorry and just told me it's only 10:30 pm not 11:00 pm. When I asked him why he can't call us earlier to ask us to pay, he said that he is doing his job.

The hotel is in the good location but it has a funny smell. We heard some noise almost every night.

The consumer serivce is bad. We have never had anybody from hotel to call us at 10:30 pm for $20. The worst consumer service ever. Will never stay here again.

My fiancè and I stayed here for the Pro Bowl and it was great! The rooms were clean and had all the amenities we needed. The IHOP next door is over priced but just walk a block towards the beach and go to a local restaurant - much cheaper. The hotel is in a great location - everything is within walking distance. The pool is the only downside but they don't hype it up.

Aloha and Mahalo for your submitting your review on tripadvisor. It is always great to hear that you enjoyed our property and that our rooms are clean with ample amenities. We have a strong housekeeping department that takes great pride in their work. It brings me joy to read these positive comments during our housekeeping briefings. Thank you for mentioning our location as it has everything in walking distance. Our heated pool and whirlpool spa was just built a few months ago and we are excited to now have this on our property. The pool is small but we were limited on the amount of space to put one in.
Thank you again and a hui hou! (until we meet again)

I just returned from Oahu, Hawaii. I was there 5 days. My stay could not have been more perfect. The weather, the people, and the accommodations. The hotel that I stayed was the Ohana Waikiki Malia which is an Outrigger property. The customer service was over the top. Ohana means family, and that is exactly what you feel like when you stay there. In fact, they recently renovated the property. And the best part about staying at any Outrigger property, you will not be charged resort fees...ever! You cannot go wrong by staying at any of the Outrigger properties. on a scale of 1 - 10, I give the Ohana Waikiki Malia a '10'.

Room Tip: As a Travel Consultant, I recommend any room at the Ohana Waikiki Malia.
