We were very pleased with the service upon arrival and during our four-day stay. The front desk staff person at check-out was excellent -- friendly, informative, professional -- and the two staff members we dealt with regularly at the pool were super service-oriented, friendly, and helpful. Good to see that customer service is important at this hotel and that the management ensures that good staff are hired and trained!
Besides the staff, the main perks included a super ocean view, being located right across the street from the beach, an option to take deck chairs and towels from the hotel to the beach, a large room with a mini-fridge and in-room safe, and lovely toiletries (e.g., shampoo, conditioner, soaps). The bed was very comfortable too, the room was spacious, and the little balcony was a great place to watch the action at the beach across the street. The view, location on the beach, and central location in Waikiki made the Hyatt a great choice.
On the down-side, the rooms are adequately furnished/decorated, but things are in desperate need of a modern update. I have not been to a $300 plus/night hotel with such a terrible bathroom in a long time -- it honestly looks no better than an economy hotel, so was very disappointed. The single sink and granite countertop is outside a separate tiny toilet and old-style shower/bath combo -- the bathtub is dark, old, small, ugly and without...We were very pleased with the service upon arrival and during our four-day stay. The single sink and granite countertop is outside a separate tiny toilet and old-style shower/bath combo -- the bathtub is dark, old, small, ugly and without a fan. Also missing in a high-end luxury hotel like this were the terry bathrobes. Maybe this isn't done in Hawaiian hotels, but it is the first time in a few years that I haven't enjoyed this perk at a luxury hotel.
More generally, the automatic door closers slam the room doors shut. In a large and busy hotel such as this one, it means it is very noisy -- the closers could probably be adjusted so they don't bang so hard. The hotel is also located on the main street opposite the beach, so the traffic is loud and constant. Also, there is an additional mandatory $25/night fee added to the already high hotel price for the internet, water, towel use, etc. As far as this charge goes, however, it isn't bad given that internet alone sometimes costs this much at other hotels.
All things considered, we had a good stay at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, but we would not stay here again, nor recommend it to others based on the price/value ratio.More
