I have stayed at The Hyatt Regency Spa in Waikiki for years and it has always given great service, comfortable beds and wonderful location. The breakfast Buffett at The Shor restaurant is great with a perfect morning view of the ocean and has very good service. The beds are comfortable and it is in the perfect location for everything . I just got back from a weekend trip and as always had a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: I joined Hyatt Gold passport club and usually get an ocean view upgrade

This was our first stay at the Hyatt Waikiki beach - the last time was the Hilton. It was our 49th Wedding anniversary and the Hyatt made it one to remember from check-in time. We arrived at 8am and was advised that our room would not be ready until 2pm. No problem for the staff - free upgrade to a room that was ready (worth $70 per day) and because it was our anniversary. free bottle of champagne, fruit platter, welcome letter from the manager and discounts at the spa.
The upgraded room had two double beds and beachfront views. Our special night was at the Japengo restaurant and could not be faulted in any way (try the Chilli Crab).
If your looking for a hotel in Waikiki that ticks all the boxes then the Hyatt Regency is the one

Room Tip: Watch for Road noise outside the lower floor beachfront rooms

Aloha,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay. We are so glad that you were had such a wonderful anniversary celebration with us. We have shared your comments in particular with our Japengo staff. Did you know, that the man tou buns that accompany the crab are house-made? That is a favorite dish for many.

We hope that you will visit again.

Had 10 nights at this hotel and enjoyed every day we stayed there. We were on our honeymoon and I am glad it was as good as the other reviews have confirmed. What a great location, beach front, next to many shops (she was happy with that), very friendly staff (especially this guy Dan who looked after us and sent us some goodies to the room for our honeymoon). The hotel does need updating, some modernisation but the old look really made it feel homey.
If we are to go to Hawaii again, we will surely visit this hotel again.

Booked our holiday through My Holiday. I normally wouldn't use an travel agent but you couldn't beat there prices. I now understand why people use agencies as it made the holiday booking process stress free. This hotel is about 20mins from the airport and if transfers not included would be approximately $28 in a taxi. The hotel is directly across the road from Waikiki Beach and a trolley stop. For $2 the pink line trolley takes you to Ala Moana shopping centre. The local bus also take you anywhere for $2.50. We upgraded to a Ocean View room, view was great but not sure if it's worth the extra money as we were never in the room. The pool area looks over Waikiki beach and the staff were awesome. They put your towel on the lounge chair for you and have all the latest magazines for you to read. They also bring around cold towels and water throughout the day. Lounge chairs filled up quickly and the pool area isn't large. You can rent a private Cabana for half a day (which was 7 hours) for $40 and includes a fruit platter. 20% off for Gold Passport Members. They also have happy hour by the pool with very reasonable drink prices -$7 cocktails. Another bonus is the ABC store on the pool deck where you can buy snacks. You can also rent lounges and umbrellas on Waikiki Beach for $20 for 2 chairs, umbrella for 2 hours. Breakfast if not included was $30 which we enjoyed. If you are a gold passport member which is free to join, you get an extra menu at breakfast which included eggs bunny, Loco Moco and a few other things. Lines however were long to get into the breakfast. There are heaps of restaurants near by that had breakfasts from $5. By joining the Gold Passport you also get 50% off the resort fee. As Australians we are not used to paying this, so 50% off was helpful making it $12.50 plus tax per day. Rooms are large. The bathroom has a combined bath/shower with a shower curtain. They provide complimentary toothpaste but no shower cap. Internet is free all around the Hyatt which is handy and you get 2 bottles of water each day (all part of the resort fee). Have stayed at the Sheraton next door but found the Hyatt much better.

Had a 1 night stay before heading to our resort, booked with Hotwire which can be hit and miss. When we arrived they asked us what bed type we wanted and we were given double beds as requested, upgraded to the Ocean View on the 33rd floor which was an outstanding start to our vacation. Valet was extremely friendly and efficient, service was outstanding.

The only knock on the place is it could use a refresh, the room was a bit dated, but was clean and comfortable.

I grew up in Honolulu and stay at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki every time I visit Honolulu. My family and I always thoroughly enjoy our stay and always choose to return, despite numerous other options including many which are more luxurious. Here are my reasons:
1. Welcoming staff. Across the board, many of the HRW have worked there for years. They are locals and true hospitality professionals who exemplify the Aloha Spirit.
2. Fantastic location (other location-related points below). Hotel is on the Diamond Head end of Waikiki and across the street from the beach. The public beach is a bit more roomy than further Ewa, near the Sheraton, for example. You can walk to the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center (and Hotel), the Westin Moana, etc.if you want a change of pace.
3. Family-friendly. The hotel is extremely comfortable but not stuffy. My daughters can be themselves and not feel like they are overly disruptive or disrepectful of the hotel ambience.
4. Access. It is easy to get in and out of Waikiki at this location via Kapahulu Avenue via car.
5. Room size and layout. The rooms are all good-sized and larger than other Waikiki hotels at this price point. Each has a balcony, which provides a good venue for chilling out. The bathroom facilities, with the tub and toilet separated from the sink, is convenient.
6. Regency Club. Layout is roomy and food quality is good. As with other parts of the hotel, the Club is staffed by true professionals who have been there for years and have not lost their enthusiasm for the job.

There are some things the hotel can improve upon.
A. Bed quality. The beds can be improved considerably. In addition, I feel the rooms with full sized beds can accommodate two queens, which would vastly increase the confort factor.
B. Overall age of rooms. Need a renovation, but this is forthcoming.
C. Parking. I would not recommend self parking. The valet service is more expensive, but it is worth it. The valet team is great and is very experienced (consistent with overall HRW team).

Room Tip: The higher floor, the better. The sliding doors let in a lot of noise and Waikiki is far from quiet.

First time stay here. We actually had two visits during our mattress run trip. Standing in front of the unmanned Diamond check-in expecting to wait for someone to return - typical of other Hyatts. Low and behold, the next available agent came over and helped me, even though other guests were waiting in the regular line. Not typical of other Hyatts.

We were put in the Diamond Tower - elevators were noisy, a bit wobbly but quick. No key access control to our floor - appeared higher floors did have it. On 21st floor, our room had mostly an ocean view. Being a round building, only one room is a true ocean front. Our room had a view of the other tower as well. Wow what a large room. Too large - big areas between the furniture. There was a multi plug outlet sitting on the dresser - great but not usable for my CPAP. Too far away. Forced to make it work because there wasn't any accessible plug between the beds. I noticed lots of surface mounted electrical ducting running along the walls but no outlet.

Corners in the bathroom reflected the daily mopping - not clean looking. An awkward room layout - couldn't open the door all the way and exit while standing behind it - walls in the way. Round building syndrome I would guess. No problem hearing sirens through the glass balcony door.

Diamond benefit of local beers was a six-pack of Kona Brewing. Very nice - usually only get two beers.

Lots of shops in the hotel property. Regency Club is open 24 hours - we went late at night and it was just refer access (soda, water) and the coffee machine. During the daytime, nice breakfast spread. I appreciated that the staff remembered and called me by name.

A bit of a weird thing - the door to the Regency Club balcony opens in - difficult to open with your hands full of breakfast. I'd suggest they change the sloped top trash can that sits by the door with a tray or piece of furniture so there is a place to set things down to open the door.

Late checkout was accommodated without a fuss. No having to go down to the desk for key reprogramming. We had a 10PM flight. We were offered 4PM checkout if we didn't want to change rooms and 6PM if we didn't mind changing. Very helpful.

Again, One of the best places we have stayed with respect to Diamond recognition. We did not eat in any of the restaurants so no comment about them. Pool was kept up well. Gym was a bit crowded but equipment was in good condition. Very convenient to all the Waikiki action. Beach right across the street.
