“You get what you pay for”
Reviewed 14 June 2014 via mobile

Bernini is definitely a very special place to dine. I have never had a thin crust pizza that was literally paper thin like that one yet crisp like a fresh wafer- the experience is enhanced when the waiter delivers it to the table, breaks the raw egg and places it on each slice... Everything is aesthetically presented and complex in flavor. The desserts are also special.
Culinary experiences like these are not meant for diners who are prone to "sticker shock" when the tab arrives. It is pricey but you are taken care of from start to finish.

“A Gem: Trip Advisor Underrates Bernini”
Reviewed 21 March 2014

We went to Bernini last night for dinner. We had a leisurely 2.5 hour meal, and the overall experience and food was fantastic. This restaurant should not be rated 400 of 1200 in Honolulu -- this is a top 20 restaurant in the city, and a great place to find relaxing Italian food, amazing super thin crust pizzas, and excellent pastries for dessert.

(Make reservations by phone: this place is sold out every night, and the only walk-in possibilities are at 5:30 or else at 9:30 pm).

Arriving, the place is set back from the main avenue, with limited parking in front. Once you enter, you are drawn into the pastry display on the right, you can see through to the open format kitchen ahead with genuine pizza oven, and room for 50 or 60 guests total. We sat in the far corner and shared a very nice meal with a friend.

We ordered the snapper carpaccio, which was very lightly cooked on the outside but raw inside and delicious over a fine salad. That was followed by the mushroom salad which, for mushroom fans, is not to be missed. And our other appetizer was the grilled scallop, octopus and shrimp, which had strong and wonderful Italian spices and was delicious.

The staff are knowledgable and their service is very good. For example, they brought finger cleansing bowls for cleaning after peeling the grilled shrimp. Each bowl had warm water and a lemon slice.

Dinner for us was the mussel and clam pasta with a very light lemony cream sauce which we savored. That was followed by the grilled chicken which was tender and nicely salted and spiced. And we shared the four cheese pizza which came with accenting sauces, the best of which was honey. Yes, honey. It went fantastically with the gorgonzola and blue cheese flavors in the pizza.

Just a word on the pizza: it is thin crust, super thin crust. And the edge of the crust balloons up and is wonderfully crunchy to eat. One of the best pizza you can get in the city, and a good complement to a more "formal" dining experience at Bernini because it is a) affordable and b) not too filling (because of the thin crust nature of it).

Dessert for us was three items: a rhubarb tart (very nicely topped with a toasted meringue), a citrus gellee that was our favorite, and a multi-layer crepe cake that was very sweet and smooth flavored and which had a chocolate layer in its middle.

Overall, a truly enjoyable dining experience and a place that we would come back to often if we lived in Honolulu. We strongly recommend Bernini to anyone seeking an Italian dining experience and likes lighter, varied Italian food as opposed to just heavy pasta and pizza.

“One word: Amazing”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday about a month ago. We were a 4 top. The restaurant was packed and fortunately we made reservations.

Ambience: Lovely, quaint and very modern. Comfortable chairs and nice leg room.

Clientelle: pretty upscale with a hidden understanding of a dress code

Service: Impecable. Without you even knowing , someone is there to quickly refill your water and wine.Fantastic knowledge of their available entrees and other foods. Thorough explanation and great wine pairing recommendations

Deals: If more than 3 always order a bottle ( for wine of course)

Food: Deliciouso! I ordered a pasta and it was filling and delicious without the heavy after taste and feeling you get from pasta over load. We also ordered the calamari appetizer and it was to die for.
My friends ordered pizza each for their own consumption and it was presented well on a raised plate and from the sounds of their munching it too was to die for.

Price: about medium to high scale

Really enjoyed this Japanese influenced and owned Italian restaurant . Everything was perfect and I will be looking forward to returning

“Yummy Pasta”
Reviewed 16 December 2013 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

The pasta and specials are good. I do not have a bad meal here. Also their desserts are good too. The only draw back to this place is the parking. Only 8 compact cars can fit in their lot...so you will have to park on the street if you don't have first seating.
