“A Great Restaurant with Wonderful Service”
Reviewed 27 January 2013

For my mom's birthday, we wanted to take her to a restaurant we had not yet visited, so we could try something different. My brother suggested Japengo at the Hyatt Regency, and I'm so glad that was the restaurant we chose. We had a group of six and were given a private room. It was so nice because we had privacy and plenty of space yet we were not forgotten. Our server, Pam, was so pleasant and attentive. She took such good care of us, making sure that we were having a great experience and were not wanting for anything. It was first-class service delivered pleasantly and sincerely. We had some appetizers (sushi), and it was delicious. My husband and I arrived a bit late to dinner, but before we got there, the rest of the party had dined on scallop appetizers, which they said were very, very good. We would've ordered it, too, but we looked at the menu and were already getting excited with the choice of entrees. I had the kalbi short ribs, and they were prepared perfectly. Very tasty, and it included kim chee. The portions were quite generous, too. My kal bi entree came with rice. Several folks were hankering for noodles, and they ordered the Shanghai noodles. That was very good, too. Lots of scallops and shrimp and crab. We were celebrating a birthday, so we had to have dessert. :-) Okay, who am I kidding? Even if we weren't celebrating a birthday, we would've wanted dessert. We ordered several desserts and were very impressed. Being a cookie dough fan, I had to get the chocolate chip cookie dough brownie. The hubby ordered a chocolate ganache with ice cream, and it was very good. We also had the creme brulee and cheesecake. The desserts were great and well-sized, so I don't think one would go wrong ordering any of those tempting desserts. All were delcious and well-presented! This was our first time at Japengo, and we were impressed. We'll certainly plan on coming back for the great food and the very nice customer service. We left the restaurant happy and full, eager for our next visit.

“Terrific meal and outstanding Sushi”
Reviewed 24 January 2013

My partner and I walked in at 5:45pm and while the general restaurant was not open the chefs at the Sushi bar were ready so we got seated and had some outstanding sushi. The chefs were extremely friendly and engaging. But the food was just excellent. I am sure because of the Japanese clientale and location in the Hyatt. We loved each dish except the crispy chicken chunks which were hard and chewy. I would not recommend them. The scorched Hamachi sushi was killer. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. sit at the bar. They have a fixed price menu but also they have a sushi menu so that you can order as you see fit. The bill for two was around $60. Not too bad considering the location and high quality.

“poor experience”
Reviewed 1 January 2013

booked the new year eve dinner at 9.30pm. we did not know it was a 5-course set-menu for $135.00 per person(tip and tax not included) till we sat at table. There were not much choices as it was so late for our group of 6. No introductions on the menu items for the whole time we were dinning there. I asked what options we have and was told just one"how would yolike your steak done". 1st and 2nd items (sushi roll sampler et al) were good except we did not know what were the rolls. 3rd item was the salad with raw fish. 4 of our 6 people did not tuch the raw fish. They were fresh though. Next item was steak and deep fried cod. The steak was good but the cod was too dry without any flavour. The last item was ice cream. The food was served really quickly without any intruductions. We felt we wre left to figure out ourself on this $135. per person dinner. The restaurant deco was nice but felt like in the fast food place with the people walking by all the time and big noise. The main short coming in our experience is the lack of friendly services from the time we met host to the end of dinner. It was not a pleasant experience.

“Perfect in the extraordinary sushi bar!”
Reviewed 25 December 2012 via mobile

We arrived at 9 PM Christmas eve after a very long flight from Washington DC. The main restaurant was full so we decided to eat at the sushi bar. What a complete delight. The freshest sushi we have ever had and we travel a lot. Some interesting and delicious preparation on certain items. Sushi Chef created special treats for our wishes. Exceptional service from the chef and the server, delightful hospitality. One of the best dining experiences we have had and we are big foodies. The cold saki flights were yummy. Thank you for giving us a fabulous Christmas eve so late at night and when you would most likely prefer be done working and at home. Refreshing in this day and age.
