My husband and I vacationed on Oahu for a week. We visited every beach on the island. We found that Waikiki Beach was the best place to stay to reach all activities on the island and be close to the majority of the fun. To save on travel expense we rented a car for only half of the week to visit Pearl Harbor, some of the other beaches and the Dole Pineapple Plantation. Everything else we did we were able to walk to from our Waikik Beach hotel. There are plenty of restaurants, shops, bars, tours, etc. to keep you busy. We aren't avid surfers, so if that's what you are, you'll want to head to North Beach where the waves are larger. As newbees, you can take surf lessons at Waikiki and enjoy waves that I would call "less stressful" for a beginner. One of our highlights was doing a submarine tour that took us 100 feet below sea level where we saw all kinds of sea life, a plane wreck and a ship wreck. If you are going to set out for the day I would recommend bringing a backpack with layers of clothing since it can be hot on the beach, but chilly in the shade and once the sun sets. We don't have a thing to complain about in regards to this beach, area, island, etc. If we had to come up with something the only thing we'd mention is that it is a little more expensive for everything, noteably the food, than on the mainland. We thought it was worth every extra penny. We hope you visit and enjoy your experience as much as we did. Aloooha!
