If you're looking for clean, comfortable, convenient and welcoming hotel in Waikiki that won't break the bank, you could spend a lot of time reading reviews and looking at maps and tryng to find what seems like a very elusive combination, particularly at Christmas time.
Or... you could save yourself a heap of effort and just reserve a room here instead! We're not surprised to see the Shoreline rating well on TA because we think it's got just the right mix of value, location, comfort and service.
And since we arrived hot, tired and flustered 24 hours ahead of our reservation - owing to a slight miscalculation with the international dateline - we were able to put the system to the test. Not only did Pete on the front desk do his best to make us feel less stupid, he efficientlly booked us into the same room for a better price.
We were on the 7th floor in a king/city view room. As others have noted there is a bit of street noise in the morning but nothing to get too worried about. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well both nights.
We would go back without hesitaton,

We stayed at the Shoreline Hotel for 10 nights in November/December 2013. The hotel is in a quiet street just around the corner from Kalakaua Avenue the main street in Waikiki. The hotel is modern and clean. The staff are all friendly and very helpful. Free coffee and tea in the reception area 24/7. Valet parking on-site at a fee per night. One night we arrived back quite late and had to use the car park over the road but this was no problem at all. The room was clean and had everything you need, comfy bed, flat screen tv, microwave, coffee making, free wi fi, safe. If we were to complain about anything the air conditioner was a little noisy - it didn't keep me awake at night but my partner who has sensitive hearing used earplugs. I was there for my birthday and was left a card and box of chocolates in the room which was a very thoughtful touch. We had a room on the 9th floor which didn't have a great view but we were out so much it wasn't a problem. The hotel is very quiet, peaceful and central to the main part of Kalakaua Avenue where there's restaurants, shops and easy access to the beach. If you're looking for a great hotel close to everything without paying big dollars this is definitely the place to stay. We would stay here again.

We booked 1 night ($200) on their website and got the 14th floor ( top floor ) which was surprisingly quiet ( facing the ocean side ). Our room and bathroom were very clean. 2 free bottles of water. Very kind and gracious front desk staff. Also allowed us to check out 1 hour later. Great location. Oh and free coffee and newspapers in the lobby. Great experience overall.

I'm a fan of the Joie de Vivre hotel, The Vitale in San Francisco, so this place was a natural when it came time for us to book in Waikiki. We arrived and were pleasantly surprised by the cool, slightly retro look of the hotel. The lobby is modern and minimal, with no on-site restaurant or bar (though it looks like work is being done on one adjacent to the lobby).

Our room was very clean and modern and pretty much exactly what we were looking for. Our stay was greeted with warm and humid weather, so the AC in the room was great, as was the flat-screen TV and very comfy bed.

The location? Amazing. It's not on the beach, but you're only a block away from the main Waikiki strip, Kalakaua Avenue (and you'll save money for dining and shopping by not staying right on the beach). The beautiful Waikiki Beach was less than a 5 minute stroll away - and the shopping and plentiful restaurants were even closer.

The service from both the front-desk and cleaning staff was fantastic - both contributed to make our stay everything we had hoped it would be.

Room Tip: If you can, try to get a higher room to get a bit of a view and to escape the street noise (which is...

Great staff, clean rooms and centrally located! Unfortunately they don't have a gym facility.

Right across the street from all malls, shopping street and restaurants. There's a lovely sunset restaurant close by called house without a key

Hotel serves fresh coffee and tea 24/7 in the lobby

I moved into this hotel from a nearby hotel that was not worth the stay. The Shoreline was a vast improvement. The room was very clean and up to date. The bed was comfortable with nice linen. Wifi was great and the TV was a nice wall mounted flat screen that could be moved for viewing at any angle in the room (in bed or sitting at desk). The valet's were very courteous and provided a full tour of the room and all of the amenities. The only issue that I had was there were a couple of nights that I had difficulty sleeping because of noise from the street/nearby buildings. That had nothing to do with the hotel itself, that was the penalty of staying in a city.

Room Tip: Always ask to see the room before completing check in.
