“go for the original malasadas”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

Don't get sidetracked by fillings or anything else: the original, classic, sugar malasada is what you go for here - not even the cinnamon sugar, even though that's ok it still detracts from the straight. As a kid in Honolulu, the red&white wagon always signified great happiness, and as a returning adult, I strategize ahead of time on the parking approach at every visit!

“Overrated”

I order a dozen of the plain malasadas and ones with chocolate filling. The center of the malasadas was under cooked. The chocolate filling taste like instant chocolate pudding. I also order a loaf of cinnamon bread. There were absolutely no cinnamon flavor and the bread was dry. I dont see whats the big deal about this place.

“A Must-Go for Malasadas--Traditional "Hawaiian" donut”
Reviewed 8 September 2013

Okay, some places have Krispy Kreme, others have Dunkin' Donuts....In Hawaii we have Leonard's malasadas. These delightful Portuguese puff pastries are like very light sugar donuts. Other varieties have creme filling, but the plain are the best. At the store, they make them all day so they are always fresh, hot, and ono-delicious. Worth the trip for sure...they have other pastries which are good too but the malasadas are definitely the destination event.....

“Consistently good”

I have been going here on-and-off for 40 years. The bakery is consistently great. The sweetbread tastes like my mom used to make. And it is very economical.

“YUM!”

The best doughnuts in town and a Waikiki icon! Definitely a local favorite! They are always busy due to their popularity so make sure you allow yourself enough time for your purchase.
