“Great Gourmet Secret Jewel”
Reviewed 16 August 2013

If you love Asian Fusion, this restaurant is well worth the trip out of Waikiki. The blends of Asian flavors and European ingredients combine to give you a truly unique culinary experience. The menu is large enough to give you choices that are balanced between seafood, chicken and steak selections. In addition there are a lot of specials and surprises.
Great, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Most of whom have been at this same restaurant for more than 20 years.
Incredible appetizer menu (be sure to try the abolone).
Cafe Miro is a bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for.
Try this gourmet jewel, you won't be disappointed.

“Best dish: Foie Gras Don”
Reviewed 19 July 2013

There were some hits and some misses at Cafe Miro

Hits:
Foie Gras Don. Maybe i'm deprived of it in CA and any version of Foie Gras tastes heavenly to me...or maybe this is one of the most inventive version of foie gras i've had in a while. The asian flavors seared on the silky foie gras on a small bed of rice was absolute perfection. Best dish of the night

Scallop Abalone Appetizer: Delicious. One of the best perfectly cooked abalones i've ever had

Prime Rib: It was technically perfect but lacked any excitement for me. It was a huge piece of prime rib...but i wish i loved it as much as the foie gras and abalone

Decor is really dated; really wish they would update it into a warm neighborhood bistro/ restaurant. It kinda looks like a 70s sushi joint with all the pine-colored wooden chairs/ tables

“Over rated, over priced.”
Reviewed 7 July 2013

Like one review noted, the cheese was from Costco as were the oysters. More than half the items on the price fix menu were not available, i.e. Spiny lobster, king salmon. Table was small and cramped with nothing to look at except the back wall. Wouldn't recommend and won't go back.

“What a Hidden gem!!”
Reviewed 7 March 2013

I googled fine dining in Kaimuki and came up with Cafe Miro. Checking it on tripadvisor showed a very mediocre 217 ranking. I hesitated, but upon reading the reviews decided they were positive enough to warrant trying it.

I am glad I did. First of all, booking on Open Table was a breeze. Upon entering the restaurant, we were in awe of the nice decor, high ceiling, clean design, spaciousness between tables. It was also bright and airy. We were greeted by the dining room manager, who promptly confirmed with us about food allergies that we noted on our Open Table booking. He relayed that the Chef had already made suggestions, even though the booking was only made online that morning. We were impressed.

In short order, guests started arriving, and before long the place was full........ on a tuesday night! Most were of middle age and older, and not noisy. This made for a very relaxing dining experience, not the " high energy" atmosphere that so many new restaurants are trying to create.

The menu was simple yet plentiful. One can order three course dinner for $43 , or 4 courses for $54. Certain items carry a surcharge, which is well publicized on their website. If one orders by the dish ( e.g. Today's market fresh fish is $28), it is still possible but the minimal spending on food and beverages is $43. Service was efficient and professional, food was fresh and tasteful, and portions were just right for us.

When we left at 7:30pm , the restaurant was still almost full and running smoothly. After waiting outside the door for the bus ( another bonus for those of you who are staying in Waikiki, the bus stops are right in front of the restaurant and right across the street, can't be any more convenient than that!) for a few minutes, our server Trent noticed and called us to go back in and wait inside for our taxi. He showed that he cared for his customers. Trent has been there for 3-4 years and has represented Cafe Miro well.

It is amazing that a restaurant of this quality remains a relative unknown on tripadvisor, despite the high rating on Zagat of 26/22/26. We were told that it also has not advertised to the locals, the customers are mostly word of mouth. We will definitely go back with our friends on our next visit to Honlulu.
