Hawaii Kai on a weekend morning, a busy Zippy's and a long wait for a table, then your order gets mixed up and the service is slow. Not an auspicious start but the food is hot, there's lots of it and it's pretty tasty as well. These Hawaiian versions of Denny's are spread around the island and make a pretty safe bet for a quick and relatively inexpensive meal. They have a baked goods section with pies, cakes and that delicious standby - malasadas (not as good as Leonard's in Kapahulu). Chili & rice is a great fill me up warmer, Try the Loko Moko - a combination of rice, hamburger patty, eggs and brown gravy - a real heart stopper - literally. There is something for everyone on the menu, take a good look at the menu and try something different than what you would have at home. Live on the edge. And enjoy!
