“Basic and tired hotel”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

If you want a basic hotel near the beach then this is fine but with some maintenance and better pillows this place would be much better. Pillows are an essential component if a good night's sleep and our stay last week at the Hilton Back Bay Boston just recently replaced all theirs with great pillows. Here at the Waikiki Resort they still use el cheapo spong pillows.

The patio door to he balcony needs new runners. This would be a low cost improvement but I guess management does not care.

Staff are very good and helpful and the room is clean.

An ice machine on each floor would be a good improvement.

Overall this is an OK place to stay but management should get on top of things (I used my travel screwdriver to secure a loose electrical wall socket - another example of a lack of systems to check rooms).

First of all thank you for staying with us. We certainly appreciated your candid feedback in reference to our pillows and the flawed sliding door. We apologize for any discomfort and inconvenience. Contrary to your thoughts, we want everyone to know that we do care. And in fact will be upgrading our bed linen, including pillows, as well as our terry linen (as of November 1st). Among other things (lobby upgrade this month), mattress upgrades are in the works. As for the minor guest room shortcomings that you alluded to, we will be taking steps over the next few months to identify and address them. Once again, MAHALO, and hopefully you give us another opportunity should your future plans bring you back to beautiful Hawaii.

Stayed here on an overnight before boarding NCL's Pride of America. We arrived at 3pm, and our room was ready. the hotel was centrally located, and while not on the beach, it was a short 1/4 mile walk to beachfront Khameamea Park, which was wonderful and busy.

PROS -
Registration super easy, and hotel staff was friendly and knowlegeable about local eateries.
Room was clean
Location-easy 1 block walk to beach.
Free Wi-Fi in lobby
Service good at ILIMA buffet.

CONS:
Decor is tired and run down.
Rooms are tiny,
Mattresses in beds are AWFUL-soft and lumpy! Thank goodness we had to sleep on them for only one night!
Linens are cheap and scratchy.
A/C wasn't super effective, and a bit noisy.

Overall, not horrible, but for $189 plus taxes and fees per night, we expected more.

We certainly appreciated your feedback. While "average" may seem okay to some, we want you to know that it is not okay as far as we are concerned and hope to be making positive strides over the near term as we look to upgrade our mattresses, bed furnishings and terry linen. As of November 1, we will be outsourcing our laundry which, with upgraded, pressed linen, will go a long way in improving our guests' experience. While we're pleased to announce that our lobby will undergo a decor facelift within the next 2-3 weeks, we want everyone to rest assured that all efforts will be made to minimize any guest inconvenience assuming your plans bring you to our hotel over the next few weeks. Thank you again for allowing us to serve you and certainly hope you choose to visit us once again should you return to beautiful Hawaii.

My family visited Hawaii for the first time, and we are pleased a lot staying in this hotel. What a great bang for the buck! It's located just one block away from the Duke Statue, where the Waikiki Beach entrance is; and most of transportation services stop for pick-up. Very convenient location for activities and shopping.

The front desk service was excellent. I had a problem with some payment issue with my travel agency which I booked this trip with, and HoJin helped me to solve the problem. Thanks to her!

It's located about the one block from Waikiki beach, the hotel staff was very attentive and the rooms clean. We got upgraded to a partial ocean room view, which as a great plus. The guest services helped us pick some great activities.

Thank you for commenting on our convenient location, our "attentive" staff, and our affordable rates. Glad that we were able to provide you with a room upgrade which I must admit, hasn't been readily possible over the past year due to our tight occupancies. Hope you tell others about us and we look forward to welcoming you back soon. Again mahalo.

The hotel has the best location, 30 second walk to the beach. Amazing staff. Every staff member went out of their way to help you. In particular one of the staff members Dave, was very helpful at all times. The only thing was that the pool was nothing to get excited about but you do have the beach at the tip of your toes and the views from the hotel are amazing!

Appreciate your plaudits of our staff, and your special mention of Dave. The "30 second" walk to the beach is actually fact and perhaps a major reason for Waikiki Resort Hotel's popularity. I agree that the pool holds much promise although glad we are just seconds away from the most famous beach in the world.

Wasn't sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised with the Waikiki Resort Hotel.
Our room was a good size, very comfortable bed and most importantly very clean. A microwave oven was a nice addition. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Free wifi was available in the lobby which had plenty of seating and was never too crowded. With the beach and shops only a few minutes walk the location is fantastic. There is a pool area but with the beach so close we never used it. There is a bus stop nearby which was very handy for us as we had friends staying at the opposite end of Waikiki. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had a corner room which was slightly bigger than the normal room. Very "partial" ocean...

I have stayed at hotels all over the world and this one felt a little 3rd world not going to lie. I guess my secretary booked a good deal but then you pay for parking and internet so that good deal isn't so good. It was right by the beach one block over so the location is great if your going to the beach. I was on business and did some diving so it worked out great. The service was not ideal either. You could tell they mostly catered to Asian tourists. The rooms weren't very nice and they didn't do a good job cleaning them on a daily basis either. I came back and it looked like they half attempted to make my bed and gave up. I will be looking for a different hotel next time I am in town.

Thank you for taking a moment of our time to share your experience. As an avid traveler of the world, your feedback, while candid, is invaluable. Rest assured the upkeep of our guest rooms is most important to us and it appears we fell short on this one. We apologize for having failed to meet your expectations, and that of ours. Your perception that we cater to the Asian traveler is an intriguing one, but one we are closely assessing. Certainly we want our future visitors know that we care about what our guests think and want them to know that "average" is not good enough and that their experience is our utmost priority whether from the East or West. With upgrades to our lobby and guestroom furnishings within this month, and other decor upgrades in the next few months, we hope you give us another opportunity in hopes we may alter your perception of our product and services. Again mahalo.
