I have known the owner of Station Bar and Lounge for almost a decade and over the years he has consistently tried to provide support for the local music scene in Hawaii. He was a show promoter at some of the old now-closed music venues (SoundHouse/Detox), then he opened up a rehearsal/recording studio (1507 Music Studios), then he opened his first venue (The Spot), and then finally he ended up opening this full bar/music venue off Kapiolani. I must say that it has been impressive to watch each of his ventures get more and more polished and Station is a testament to his experience in the music scene and service industry.
The venue itself is a great size...large enough to allow several groups of friends to socialize comfortably yet small enough that it feels "cozy". There is lots of interesting hand-drawn art on the walls...not like framed pictures but actual murals/graffiti - really nice work! Live entertainment in the form of solo musicians, full bands, and comedians is almost always on the schedule...and they even have nights reserved for video gaming and movies. The bar has a good selection and fair "just outside of Waikiki" drink pricing, but it is the bartenders/staff that really provide the value because they are friendly, funny and good at recommending drinks.
They do a great job at promotion on social media, so you can always find out what it going on at Station using Facebook. If you live in Honolulu at like to go out you owe it to yourself to get on their facebook page, pick an event from their list, and go check it out!
