“Definitely worth the wait.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2014

We spotted this place only because there was a big line up out the front. We decided to try it at lunchtime when the wait isn't so long. You grab a tray and pick of the menu on the walls . You get served as you walk around. It is Ramon style noodles with the best Tempura prawns I have had for a long time. Loved this place and would definitely go back when visiting Hawaii. And you also get heaps for your money. Great value.

“Eat Before You Go”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2014

Nobu is all about presentation and attitude. While what do remember touching my tongue was generally fresh and delicious the "family style" portions are so small that you will get a spoonful of each entree and leave hungry. Given the damage done to your credit card to eat here, it's really not worth it. You'll leave searching for a burger joint out of hunger. The waiter was helpful (they have to be in order to be able to interpret Nobu's pretentiously confusing menu), and he recommended that each person at the table order a dish to share with the rest of the table as the portions are "generous". We followed his recommendation, and weirdness followed. After ordering our food (7 different entrees), 2 of us wanted a salad in addition, thinking our salads would come out first. Well, the starter salads were treated like main courses, and cam out after 2 of the main dishes were already served. I was expected to share my tiny salad with the table, as was my colleague. Each entree was served one at a time at an excruciatingly slow pace. While the intention is to allow the diner the chance to savor each course, it took about 30 seconds to consume the appetizer-sized portions, followed by a 10 minute wait for the next course. It took 3 hours to consume a meal that should have taken a half hour to finish up. Again, it's all about creating an "wow" experience, which didn't work. Half way through the meal, the waiter finally asked if we wanted rice, to which i said "thank God", yes!" Well, he brought out 3 tiny individual bowls for 7 people to share, or about 2 tablespoons each. Finally, I was the only one who ordered desert, and when it came out, guess what? I was expected by the wait staff to share it with the table, and share it they did. This is a bizarre place that's all about its celebrity owner! and not about an enjoying a good meal. Stay away.

Nobu always lives up to its wonderful reputation. Nobu waikiki has the most beautiful sashimi I think I have ever had!
The staff was awesome! The food was unbelievable as usual. That black cod is to die for!
(We came to Hawaii from Vegas. In Vegas, we went to Nobu at the Caesar's and had the tuna sashimi. The pieces of tuna were more like slivers. We ended up ordering the same thing at Nobu Waikiki and the pieces of tuna sashimi were enormous!! It is obvious that the tuna is way more accessible in Oahu)
Nobu is always a beautiful culinary experience, every time!!

“Excellent, but expensive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

This was our last night special meal. It was stunning: but came out at $150 US a head for 10 people, 6 courses, 3 shared desserts, 2 beers,1 bottle of wine, and 1 serve of Sake between 3 of us. The food was outstanding: just go with a deep wallet.

“Appalling service, no pull in getting good table by Halekulani concierge”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

Our hotel concierge (Halekulani) booked a table for two for us tonight, Sunday, August 17, for our dinner. We arrived at 8.20 pm and were asked to order a drink and a few minutes later were taken to “our table” which was in the dead corner of the red private room. We were not pleased and insisted and argued with the hostess (Alyson – she refused to give her last name – tall Asian woman with very short dress). We pointed out tables in the main dining room and were told they were spoken for and then finally she gave in and put us at a nice table in the dining room. She plunked our drinks down in front of the wrong people in clear annoyance.

That started off the night wrong. Food was fine, usual Nobu quality, though portions smaller than at other Nobur’s we know. Waiter service is bizarre, we must have had 5-6 waiters taking care of us and there was confusion.

Not the end of the world, but after Alyson’s poor welcome, we could not wait to leave. We were in and out in less than an hour. During this entire time, the table in the main dining room right behind us was empty (as it was when we were seated). The dining room cleared out and was half empty by the time we left and the red private room was completely empty.

It was reallly not acceptable.

I would not mind the overpriced food if we were treated right. We wondered why Alyson decided to ruin our night - we wonder if she does not like Latinos - there were tables with kids in the dining room so it was not in and hip. It was very much a Honolulu tourist crowd.

Do not recommend. Go to Nobu in NY or to Armani Nobu in Milan. Nobu in Mexico City is a favorite. Nobu Waikiki damages the brand. I complained to our concierge too - I was able to sign the bill to my room as Nobu is in the lower cost hotel owned by Halekulani. Why would they treat guests reserved by the Halekulani so poorly? Next time, I will use OpenTable and maybe not get such a cranky and rude hostess like Alyson.
