Spent 6 days whilst visiting Hawaii on business. I had the accommodation and meetings at the same venue. Service was very professional. service too was good. Good central location in the city of Honolulu.

Our plane arrived at 6.30am and we arrived at the hotel just after 7.00am. We had not slept a wink for almost 24hrs and were feeling like zombies. I requested an early check in and was willing to pay extra, yet I was firmly told that check in was at 3.00pm. Forced to wander the streets, we went to the Ala Moana Shopping Centre which was next door.

We had the 35th floor room with stunning views of the ocean, partially blocked by a tall building. The room had 2 double beds which seemed to be on the smaller side.

Coming from Australia, where the standard in-room tea/coffee service is excellent compared to the Ala Moana. The room had a microwave, a coffee maker, 1 satchet of Kona coffee (for the coffee machine), 2 instant coffee sachets, 2 tea bags, 2 creamers, 2 sugars & 2 coffee mugs & 2 plastic straw stirrers (which we found much later). There were no spoons, saucers, wine glasses or kettle. If you want tea, you had to microwave your water, and you if you wanted a second cuppa, you had to reuse your tea bag, unless you pinch partner's tea bag.

Good points: Free wifi was excellent and fast, but you had to sign in every day. Free local papers but you had to go down to the lobby early, otherwise it's all gone. Walkway on 2nd floor linked directly to the Ala Moana Shopping Centre Car park and straight to Macy's. The Pink Trolley goes straight to Waikiki. Quiet and stunning views to ocean and mountain. Near Walmart and Eggs n Things (about 10 mins walk)

Room Tip: Higher floors have views to the ocean

This hotel is less than 2.5 miles from downtown Honolulu. The room was spotless, bed was comfortable, coffee maker in the room, flat screen TV and free wifi. The lobby is large and bright with lots of seating. Check in was fast and efficient. The hotel is across the street from the Ala Moana Beach Park, a wonderful park and perfect place for a morning walk or run.
Only compliant was my room was on the side of the trash dumpsters so trash trucks came early and made a lot of noise. I did not try the pool or any other hotel facilities, this was a business trip and for that purpose, it was perfect.

I stayed for 2 nights before a longer stay in Waikiki and Maui specifically so that I could shop!! I wasn't disappointed. The hotel is perfectly located for the ala moana centre, the Ward centre and Walmart. I had never been to Walmart before and so walked over to have a look and ended up buying souvenirs, snacks and even scrubs for my husband. The Ward centre is also fantastic for shopping, not very touristy but great clothes and shoes and hawaiian stuff much cheaper than Waikiki.
Now to the hotel, had a corner room with lanai and great view. There was a king bed, a microwave, coffee maker, large sink and then the bathroom. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was fine, coffee maker and microwave were not clean which was a little disappointing. Room was quiet, otherwise clean and I was happy. I ate at the Pineapple Room in Macy's (excellent), YuZu in the hotel (brilliant) and the Royal Garden in the hotel (don't bother). I liked the feel of the hotel which was more business like than ultra touristy like Waikiki tends to be. I would return to the Ala Moana, in fact I did because I first stayed here in 1977!!

If you want to shop at Ala Moana and the ward centre then this is the ideal location. The rooms are not big but when you are only there to sleep it is fine. It was also lovely and quiet in the room. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Service on check in was speedy and friendly as it was on check out. I used the gym and the pool most mornings, the gym wasn't too crowded and I usually had the pool to myself. The pool surround is very fine sharp gravel though so you really need foot cover till entering the water.
Great walkway access to ala moana centre on level 2 which we used daily. It was so good to be able to go and drop shopping bags off in our room and then return for more shopping.
Also very centrally located for lots of great little restaurants in the surrounding streets.
We enjoyed our stay down this end of Waikiki as previously we had stayed right down the other end near the zoo. We only ventured into Waikiki twice this trip, instead we explored the ala moana area, the ward centres and downtown.

Room Tip: We were on level 10 in the Kona tower which had a big sliding door/window for fresh air but no balco...

Stayed here for 6 nights with wife and 2 year old. Rented room 2326 to get the 1 bedroom suite. On the plus side location is great. Super access to beach and shopping. On the downside: 1. Pool is dated. Ground surface around the pool is unacceptable. Walking in it hurts. Water felt colder than the ocean. The toddler was uninpressed. 2. Room not ready with crib on arrival. Noise from hall easily wakes up jet lagged toddler from 5am. Activating emergency warning system at 1sm for no reason also upsetting. 3. Kitchenette was useless because of no utensils, plates, cups, zip. Not sure why they install dishwasher. 4. Easy to meet other guests in the lift because we all have the same trouble with our cards. Had higher hopes based on reviews and expectation of cake for money.

We booked our room at the Ala Moana Hotel through VRBO so we got it for a really good price. The staff was wonderful. We had a late check-in which I had let them know ahead of time and they really accommodated us. When we got there I realized I had brought the wrong key for our suitcase and it was now 2;00 a.m. and all we wanted to do was sleep! I called the front desk and they put us through to someone else who immediately sent someone up to our room with the biggest bolt cutters for our tiny lock. Less than 5 mins!

Staff was always friendly and helpful no matter what we asked or who we spoke to. location of the hotel is handy next door to the shopping centre where you can easily walk to get food or eat out.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. No view from our room but we didn't spend a lot of time there. Our room was spotless and if that's any indication of the other rooms, excellent!

Room Tip: If you are looking for a room with a view probably the Kona tower is not for you but it is quieter t...
